What a great one-two with the last strip! I actually had to scroll to read the bottom panels so it wasn't even peripherally available and was as unexpected as it could possibly be. If I was one of those shaky people who always spill their coffee at funny things, I would have done so.

I read this as a message of hope. We don't know what effect our efforts have in the world. You go out there, you do your best, you screw up, and you wonder: Why am I even alive? I can't accomplish anything meaningful?

Well, you just don't know, do you? Just because you can't see the result, doesn't mean there wasn't one. All you can do is the best you can do, and keep doing it.

(Authors need to remind themselves of this a lot, because most of the time you feel as though your work has fallen into a black hole. Write a fan letter to your favorite author today!)

I like it better when the OOTS is successful intentionally, and not by accident.

Where the heck is Durkon in all of this? I was hoping he'd get to shine a little bit. Everyone's gotten spotlight in this battle except for Durkon the Mostly Ignored, who's gotten into one tiny panel. Oh, and he got to cast Greater Dispel Magic way back at the beginning of the battle.

Here's a battle where the BBEG's are all undead, there's an undead dragon, and hobgoblin priests have been sent to the front to zombiefy dead warriors, and the cleric so far hasn't done much.

I'm far more irritated at elan. He used to like singing so much, so between feats and spells, I'm sure he could be giving all allies within earshot a +4 to nearly everything. When these guys are so numerous and probably have a meager attack bonus of +4 or so to begin with, that's HUGE! A bard's power is directly proportional to the number of allies around him, yet in the ONE battle that will likely give him more allies than any other to come, he's chosen to utilize his 1 level in Dashing Swordsman and completely neglect his 12 or so in Bard! So very frustrating!

I do like how Xykon fails to notice that Roy might be a threat.

Using that level in this battle would be the epitome of awesome.

Durkon is what you call your tactical reserve. He has the big guns, remember. He's probably saving himself to defend the gate in case the others prove unsuccesful. Unlike evrybody else in the order, Durkon knows were his duty stands.


That said, I'm expecting ROy to stroke out from sheer frustration at any moment now

Well hopefully we'll get to see some Durkon activity soon. I can't imagine he'll get left out of the battle, but up until this point he's been almost conspicuously abisent.

You and me both, mang. It's almost like Durkon's player knows the cleric is overpowered and keeps out of the limelight on purpose, so as not to overhadow his friends
