I'm far more irritated at elan. He used to like singing so much, so between feats and spells, I'm sure he could be giving all allies within earshot a +4 to nearly everything. When these guys are so numerous and probably have a meager attack bonus of +4 or so to begin with, that's HUGE! A bard's power is directly proportional to the number of allies around him, yet in the ONE battle that will likely give him more allies than any other to come, he's chosen to utilize his 1 level in Dashing Swordsman and completely neglect his 12 or so in Bard! So very frustrating!

Have you ever read this comic before?

This is ELAN we're talking about here, not some hypothetical player with a generic bard character. He doesn't understand stuff like this at all. He barely can manage simple math. It would be a violation of everything we know about Elan for him to suddenly stand up and say, "You know, the cumulative effect of providing a +4 bonus to all of these soldiers would outweigh the damage I cause directly. I will therefore remove myself from the battle and do so." That requires consideration and forethought that Elan has never had. It is far more believeable that Elan would say, "Oh, man! I've got these cool new powers, I wanna try them!"

If your argument is, "I don't like how Elan hasn't been utilizing the full range of his abilities," then you're really saying, "I don't like Elan." Because being foolish and ineffective is practically the definition of Elan's personality. I don't see how anyone can get "frustrated" by a character's actions being completely consistent with everything we've ever known about him.

Well the one time he tried to inspire the troops ended...badly. Perhaps he was encouraged not to do that sort of thing.

You and me both, mang. It's almost like Durkon's player knows the cleric is overpowered and keeps out of the limelight on purpose, so as not to overhadow his friends

I was actually thinking along the same lines: that Durkon's player was a little overwhelmed by the size and complexity of the encounter, and has faded into the background.

I have a suspicion (or maybe a hope) that Durkon will open the taps and let loose the lager of war before this party is over.

i'm sure there is at least 100 in-game jokes here about the turning mechanic just waiting to be trampled.

elan lvl 1 cleric cha bonus +5
durkon lvl 13 cleric cha bonus -2

roll d20 for turn check. ... elan 20 + 5 = greater than 22 so +4 lvls of cleric
durkon 1 - 2 = -1 so loses levels of cleric.

damage at least he gets back some.

Is Elan a cleric of Banjhulu though? I seem to recall he decided to go for a wizard level instead, and had that shot down by V. Never was clear what he decided to do, finally.
