Yeah, but there's a lot of them there, and more than a few of them are swinging magic weapons around. Plus, there's several spellcasters. Finally, most all of them are Paladins to one degree or another... Lay on hands, smite evil and cure spells could feasibly do a chunk of damage to him.

And paladins tend to have decent saving throws, too...

I don't care how high-level Xykon is. He's still a Sorcerer and he's ina room with 20+ mid- to high-level Paladins.

He either gets trounced back into the phylactery or Xykon becomes a DMPC.

Anybody know why the window next to the one Xykon crashes through is covered with boards? The only other people I remember falling into the throne room was Miko and Belkar, but that was like, 150 strips ago, and I thought they fell through the ceiling...

In game terms, Xykon is toast. There are over thirty paladins in one room with levels approaching 10 - 13. in some cases. 20+ or not, with the Protection from Evil, (And in some cases in 10' radius due to Holy Swords), spells, stackable divine magic and Lay on Hands, Immuneity to Fear, Immunity to Poison adn the general undead, kill it attitude that paladins have been known to swagger around with, IRL, Xykon becomes a pretty shine in a piece of jewlery.

Of course, that may be the whole point, what better way to distract your enemy than to make them believe they've won. ;)

wail of the banshee or horrid wilting?

Hinjo was concerned that Miko's sword strike might've destroyed the Gem. Imagine what a Meteor Swarm would do to it. Xykon doesn't need to "survive" this fight, he just needs to make sure that the Throne doesn't survive it either.

A single 20+ Sorc could clear that room in a round or two. Assuming only a few of the paladins beat him on Initiative.

I doubt that very many of the Azure Guard are higher than 11th level (Burlew doesn't seem to be running Forgotten Realms). Hinjo and Miko seem to be exceptional among the Azure Guard. And I think Miko is roughly 15th and Hinjo a few levels lower than that.

My bet is on the Lich.

If Xykon wants to destroy the gate, then why is he bothering with that whole Azure City sidetrek, given that he already had two destroyed gates (in Lirian's forest and in Dorukan's dungeon)? And also, why was he considering both destructions as inconvenient setbacks?

Xykon doesn't want to destroy the gate, he wants to use it.

I am unclear of Xykon's designs on the Gates (as is everybody but Rich). Perhaps you are correct.

My point remains. A sorc of Xykon's (assumed) level should have little problem in the upcoming fight. Roughly 40 Azure Guard NPCs in nice AoE formations?

One, two rounds?
