OotS #462

It would have been nice if the Creature in Darkness had been revealed, though.

I mean, it's been 3+ years since it was introduced, it would be nice to see what it is....

I hope that after the current plot wraps up that something new challenges the OOTS.

I'm getting a bit tired of Miko, Xykon, and the Linear Guild. (Not that it hasn't been a captivating story - it has - but I'm ready for a change.)

This was a pretty good strip - thankfully no Blackguard plot - YEAH RICH!!!
Xykon and Redcloak getting their head handed to them - pretty shocking really, I didn't see that one coming.
The gate being destroyed was kind of a given, I actually figured it would beon accident and at the hands of the OotS, (why break tradition afterall?) but Miko is as good as anyone.
I see a lot of NPCs doing this and NPCs doing that and what about the party. I hat DMs that interject the save the day NPC, but this is just the opposite, the party is out of the picture and a great many events happen. The smart thing to do is have the OotS walk in, now. See Miko destroying the gate, see Xykon and Redcloak escaping and probably Soon fading (I have a feeling his and the other appatitions are tied to it somehow.) and jump to the wrong conclusion.

This give Miko more reason to hate the OotS, a reason for the OotS to 'legally' in game to hate Miko and sets up a whole other storyline as Miko travels about the countryside inadvertanly releasing the Snarl, while Xyko and gang and the OotS try to stop her and gain control of each gate AND allow for the linear guild to play both ends against the middle. This sets the whole thing up for the eventual redemption and death of Miko, the defeat of the linear guild and the possible ALLIANCE with Xykon for a temporary basis while they defeat the Snarl.

But then I'm not DMing this show, so what do I know?

Well, he wanted Dorukan's gate destroyed...
No he didn't. He was trying to figure out how to siphon off its power, which required living conduits, hence the touching that he was trying to trick the party into doing. He just needed a while to figure out how to work that.

Bah! Dumbledore would so pwn Snape!
Not in book 6, he didn't.

And on the topic of OotS, I have to agree that Soon and the Martyrs are most likely tied to the Gate, and will soon be going bye-bye. Miko hasn't fulfilled the criteria of becoming a Blackguard yet, but she just fell a good deal (bad deal?) closer. I do think she's headed there, because at this point that's too much interesting character development for Rich to give up on IMO. Surely the joke-potential of the Paladin/Blackguard comparison would give fodder for many strips, whether or not Miko is ever redeemed in the end!

Plus, Blackguard is one of the few classes from the core rules that we've never seen an example of in the strip, unless Redcloak is one (and I doubt that- but haven't read Start of Darkness yet). This would be a wonderful way to introduce it in its full dark glory.

Interesting potential plot-point: if she meets CitD in the future, and doesn't attack it outright, we may learn that it's an Outsider if that completes her fall into Blackguard!

Precisely. The most interesting part of this irony is that the outsider responcible for passing sentence on the OotS pronounced them not guilty "by virtue of it being strictly necessary at the time." Because Soon was winning, Miko's act was strictly unnecessary at the time. Lawfuls being what they are, the fact that Miko may have believed that it was necessary is unlikely to be a defence.
I've just skimmed over page three, so this may have been mentinoed, but it was Roy's dad disguised as an outsider that gave the verdict. So, it's probably not exactly a "by the book" ruling.

Miko isn't funny. She's just annoying. And ever more annoying with each passing strip. Why Rich insists on keeping her around is beyond me, but she's really starting to drag down the strip.

I'd say it's the fact that the voices in her head speak only to her and are telling her to go on a killing spree that makes her crazy.

Especially since the voices actually exist, and they have been trying to stop her.

Just want to say that this hits the nail on the head!
