OotS 464

holy crap...

only on the second reading did I notice that Miko, through death/dying, finally had the wisdom to notice she had Fallen.
And, since this post prompted me to read it again, I noticed that it was the throne itself which cut Miko in half. Ironic.

In any case, I think this was the right end for Miko. Once again, Rich outdoes himself.

cheers,

I thought this was about a fitting end for Miko as there could be. Only at the end did she understand the depth of her folly ;)

Maybe it's just my gallows humor, but Miko's last words struck me as particularly humorous.

And I'm in the camp that the oracle was referring to Roy when answering Belkar's question.

Speaking of which, can we finally get to Roy in the afterlife? I'd love a chance for him to have it out with his dad, and it would be a comedic opportunity lost for father and son to verbally abuse each other. And since OotS is mostly Roy's story (at least according to Rich in No Cure for the Paladin Blues), I expect he'll get a Raise Dead eventually.

Wow, what a great ending for Miko. As much as we HATED her and were so greatly irritated by her, this bit shows that she really was 100% loyal to her beliefs right to the end, even willing to sacrifice herself to, in her mind, save the world from Xykon. True, it actually wasn't necessary as Soon had things well in hand, but Miko was still being truly heroic by destroying the gate.

What made it truly sad and touching was that when Soon tells her that no, she won't become a Paladin again, she doesn't argue...just quietly accepts the fact and asks about her horse. That was great.

Also, the fact that Miko was actually interacting with someone who she had the utmost respect for was refreshing and once again, made her character more than just the stubborn zealot she'd been in the past. Bravo.

If Rich uses standard D&D Planar Cosmology, I think Arcadia would be the most likely destination point for her soul.

As for my own opinion on her, even though I didn't really like her as a character, I didn't hate her to the point of just wanting her dead, but I think her story's end was well written.

GLEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! :D :D :D    :p :p :p

Miko's dead! Finally dead! The iconic, Lawful Stupid, Egomaniacal Paladin is DEAD!!

And the undeserving brat's not a paladin when she dies! All is well with the world!
It only Belkar were there...

I liked this strip. I'm glad she's dead. I'm glad she didn't become a paladin. Now I can't wait for the OotS to get away from Azure City.

I understand why a lot of people disliked, even hated, Miko, but I was not one of them. This was a good end for her. A sad farewell to the Fallen.

It annoys me that those two thoughts, intentionally or unintentionally, fall together.

It ought to stand to reason that Soon would be a remarkably, even super-humanly, patient compassionate chap.

I didn't have any sense that the two sentences related to one another - the strip was the surprise, not that Soon was compassionate.

And I think that if anyone in one of my games wants to play a paladin, I'll make them read the OotS from the start of Miko's story (at least) and quiz them on it to make sure they read it all! Hinjo and Soon are what my conception of a paladin is and should be; Miko is the way far too many people play them.
