My guess is that the thing under the umberella will be revealed... but only to Belkar and not to the viewers of the strip. And Belkar will refuse to talk about what he sees, "...because its just too horrible."

Well, that pretty much always has been my theory. Alot of things hint that whatever sort of horrible abomination is under the umbrella, it is not a mature creature of its type. It hasn't quite yet grown into its full evilness. Perhaps it is undead and never will quite do so.

In any event, my theory is that what's under the umbrella is the D&D equivalent of a living plush stuffed Cthullu doll.
