Huh. One action (leaving a friend to an uncertain fate) would have been enough to turn him from Lawful Good to True Neutral. If not repented for, that is. And associating with evil characters isn't just for paladins to worry about.

That's more than enough material to start an alignment thread! :uhoh:

I was already arguing with somebody about the paladin code applying to all LGs in the last oots thread. :)

Not one action, 4 actions.

1) Resisting Arrest
2) Taking gifts intended for a king
3) Dangling an oracle out of a window
4) Abandoning a friend to an uncertain fate

1-3 were still being added up, It was fairly clear by the angel's words Abandoning a friend to an unknown fate is a dealbreaker for Law and Good.

EDIT: The poll has begun.

Nice. As usual, Rich gets lawful good.

And as usual, Roy gets lawful good too. He does not even attempt to claim that Elan and Belkar (both of whom he frequently detests) aren't his friends. Classy.

For the record, "Abandoning a friend to an unknown fate..." = BETRAYAL.

That is _the_ deal breaker for Law. Read Dante's inferno, for example.

I don't really see it as being a deal breaker, I saw it more as being an indication of what Roy's alignment truly is. After all, if he could commit multiple actions that are not lawful good in nature (even if you can argue against those actions being a transgression), then that means you're not truly lawful good as a result of your established pattern of making transgressions against the ideals of being lawful and good. In effect, even though LG is written on his character sheet, he was not truly LG; his alignment was something different. The abandonment of Elan was merely an action that served as an indicator that Roy was not LG.

If anything, this all boils down to the question of does one's actions define their alignment or does one's alignment define their actions. (A chicken and the egg situation)

Also interesting on the alignment front: realizing your mistakes and reforming does count. Don't forget that! :)

Not to mention, this was a fun review.
