Considering that most of his readers are D&D players, I'd guess that most would. It might not effect the story, but Rich's audience tends to give stats to characters in stories even when they don't represent D&D characters and they are definately looking for clues.

But even if most didn't initially, someone would and would start discussing it. It is quasi-ridiculous how much attention a fan community lavishes on something that they care about. If Rich were to watermark his strips with secret messages, it wouldn't take very long for the community to collectively notice.
 

All of that may be true, but the fact is that OotS is a comic strip first and a D&D strip second. That means that if "this is funny" conflicts with "this works by the rules of D&D," the former is going to trump the latter every time.

The joke in this strip is that Belkar went up a level, then lost it right away when he started celebrating. If he gets the level back via Restoration or whatever, that ruins the joke. Which is why I don't think it'll happen.
