You also have to remember that V hasn't tranced for months. Not sleeping for months can really affect your judgement.

I wonder about those drained levels on those soul splices. What if V has to replace those lost levels if they don't come back? Those fiends may get to drain away all of V's exp to do that...

Well V's argument is that since D&D does not have rules for sleeping it has no effect whether she trances ofc. I wonder how simulationist 3.5 missed that one (I think the longest one has gone without sleep is 11 days before he died? Usually 9+ days you are dead).

I could swear I read somewhere that if you don't sleep for one night, you're Fatigued, 2 nights and you're Exhausted. This was easily avoided by most divine casters thanks to Lesser Restoration.

Where did you get that idea? As far as I know it is possible to kill someone with sleep deprivation, but it's not exactly common or well researched. And according to guiness the record is 14 days 13 hours. Lab studies in rats take 2 to 5 weeks to kill them

Vaarsuvius' problem is that although they are obviously tremendously intelligent, they aren't particularly smart.

I wonder if Rich is using V to poke fun at / criticize the type of player who thinks that having big spells means you're invincible, and don't bother to plan or think things over?

Is Vaarsuvius really amazingly smart? She has no headband of intellect, no tomes of clear thought or wishes for an inherent bonus (heck her spell DCs must suck), and at the start of OotS Roy was likely smarter than V (mind flayer incident). I guess she has a minimum of 17 Int (since she can cast 7th level spells) but I find it unlikely that she has much more than an 18-20. Sure that is supposed to be supersmart by our standards but by D&D standards she is one dump wizard (she should have headband +6 at least by now and probably a +1 from inherent).

See that headband V wears all the time? I'm pretty sure that's a headband of intellect - in fact I have a vague recollection of someone confirming this at some point. Although it appears to have gone away when V went through his/her transformation (or perhaps it's now hidden under the shaggy hair).

At the time of meeting the mind flayer, V explicitly had an 18 Intelligence. S/he said as much when the mind flayer went after Roy. I think the mind flayer picked Roy over V because V's intelligence was all empty calories - book-smart, reality-stupid.

Xykon all ready got humiliated once, when the holy ghosts handed his bony ass to him on a silver platter. The only thing that saved his undead bacon was Miko's idiotic move.

Not to mention that the Order of the Stick actually defeated him in their first encounter due to some smart tactical thinking by Roy. He's only still around because Redcloak got away with his phylactery.
