I checked the comic pretty carefully for anything clarifying whether the "her" they were leaving behind was Hayley or V, and found nothing. What makes you so sure it's Hayley?

1. The familiar said "before you take my wizard away..."
2. Haley is prone but otherwise uninjured and not incapacitated. V is slightly injured and paralyzed. Which is the more logical one to be easy pickings to kidnap?

Mostly because of the familiar, but also because there's no joke about V*s gender ... if it had been V that would have been left behind, I think Rich would have dropped a joke along the lines of "her ... no, wait ... him ... gah! Those elves! Leave IT!"
