I wonder if the Polymorphed Hobgoblin gets killed by the devil next comic. The spell sounds like one of the non nerfed Polymorph spells so he probably has human subtype so he's SOL, even if the fiend wasn't going just by sight to execute the Redcloak standard order of "Kill All Humans".

I guess this is an effective demonstration of Evil Wins Unless PC's are Around, but that doesn't mean I really want to see it over and over again. Most of all, it's not funny at all, and is really out-of-place in a comedy strip. Especially since it mostly reverts to comedy mode when the PC's ARE around.

He's probably setting up something ironic, because I don't really think he just killed off most of the good-aligned NPC's in the game just for the heck of it!

Comedy is still there, just a lot of it is gallows humor. "Interior decorators", Lampshading "final reward", "I don't want to end up dead", Redcloak not wanting to banter with a victim but doing it anyway and the good old fashioned irony of "we're almost at the end".

There are some good jokes here, but I would really prefer to see the Resistance win this fight in the end. Get the last laugh so to speak.

Xykon and Redcloak have been off screen for a long time now, and in the mean time their normal role as evil awesome sauce and charismatic villain has been largely claimed by now Tarquin. So I think Rich feels that he needs to reestablish the credentials of his primary villains as ruthless and utterly terrible foes. We see in these scenes Redcloak out smarting and overpowering a fairly capable group of heroes and getting to chew some scenary. I think the point is that, formidable though Tarquin and the renewed Linear Guild may be, he's still only the lesser villain on the world stage.
