OotS 888

I liked this as it seems to be a way to further build upon what makes the heroes tick. But I guess I'm the only one.

Not sure this is a part of Elan's wish fullfillment fan-fic reality since it seems to conflict with the main component of his character. Of all the characters (besides Tarquin), Elan is the most aware of "The Narrative". His reality is the narrative and he expects\helps it along as a matter of course (where his father manipulates\abuses the narrative).

This strip may be the lever to break Elan out of the false reality since it doesn't seem to fit.

OOTS started in 2003.

In episode 111, in 2004, the party was battling for the first gate. This battle was over by strip 115.

In episode 444, in 2007, the party was battling for the second gate. That battle ended in strip 463.

Today, in episode 888, in 2013, we are still building up to the battle for the third gate.

Assuming the party reaches the gate this year and successfully stop Xykon from opening it, I am extrapolating that we will get to the fourth gate in 2022.

Right in time for DnD Mk VIII.

It actually was quite interesting to know that Elan's greatest fantasy involves his parents getting back together, and not his own romantic storyline or an adventure plot. Character development is interesting... but it's no substitute for plot. Unfortunately, the last strip we had free of dream sequences was 884, which was released April 17th. Literally a month ago. That's a long time to wait for actual plot to happen, and that's why many people aren't entertained by this strip.

Of course, as I said before, if these strips were coming out at the original 3/week rate, I don't think anyone (reasonable) would be complaining. Timing matters, both in the story line and in real life. I think the next strip will be my breaking point. If it actually moves the plot along, I'll keep hanging on. But if it's still in dream sequence, it will be time to put OotS on personal hiatus again.

Well the problem is, now that he's started down this road, he can't just stop. He's got to bring this run to a logical conclusion before he can bring us back to the "real" world. I presume this will happen either because someone outside of the dream sequence snaps them out of it (someone like V, perhaps), or something within the dream sequence triggers a realization that None-Of-This-Is-Real, which is what I'm betting on. But *sigh*, that's going to take some time to work up to.

Apparently unlike most people, I'm delighted with this cartoon. It doesn't have to proceed upon a schedule which I anticipate in order for it to be enjoyable for me. I'm just enjoying the journey.

I wonder if we will see the fantasies of the other characters?

IOW, how long is Rich going to drag this out?

Seeing what the OotS apparently desire the most (I'm guessing that's the point of this trap) is interesting to some small degree, but I'm more in agreement with Deset Gled. The pacing is terribly slow and frustrating to the audience. It would have been better if Rich finished off all these dream sequence strips and released them at a steady pace. Or maybe he's fighting off writer's block.
