The creator of the comic has said that statting them out would hinder the future strips because he'd have to keep checking what the restrictions for improvement on the characters were. :)

look at the faqs, around 5-7 altough its closer to 6-9 now with things happening since that statement

but we can assume its cleric the whole way, rogue the whole way, wizard the whole way, fighter the whole way... Belkar has a level in barbarian and the rest in ranger
Elan has levels in useless! I mean bard (kidding)

Well, there are a few things we can infer from the comic, assuming only Belkar has multiclassed. If we glance through a few of the more recent strips, we notice:

Xykon casts a Symobl of Pain in #110. He's at least a 9th-level Wizard. He could be a 9th-level cleric, but only if he's multiclassed with Wizard, since he later chucks some magic missles around.

Varsuvius casts a Lightning Bolt and Three Fireballs in #145. Assuming he is not an Invocation specialist, and has an Intelligance score of at least 16; Varsuvius is at least a level 8 Wizard by this strip.

Redcloak casts Slay Living #149. This makes Redcloak at least a 9th-level Cleric.

Haley uses the Manyshot feat in #152 (you can see her shooting two arrows at once). That means Haley is at least an 8th-level Rogue. She has a Dexterity of 17 or better, and also has the Point Blank Shot and Rapid Shot feats.

The faq said that he generally assumes they are 8th or 9th level, this is so he can put them up against things that they could reseonably take on, but also makes them low enough level to have to run sometimes.

There could be a pearl of power in the equasion somewhere (I'm sorry, I just like to be contrary and difficult :) )

Just as a sidenote, Varsuvius is a female elf.

Yes, it took me by surprise as well.
You might want read the faq. It says that his/her gender will never be revealed, and that any referrals to it by other people (like the store owners) will only be their perception, not the truth. ;)

There's also a long thread on the subject on the OotS forum.

Matt- Your engineering analytical methodology is showing. And, why are you posting at 6 a.m.?? I thought you finally had a normal work schedule!

Anyway... there was also the whole bit about skill levels in Ride that might be revealing to someone more inspired to check than me. LOL And, I thought that Elan took a level in cleric (to the puppet god)?
