Open Water is depressing [Spoilers]

Man, I just saw the movie Open Water the other day.

Talk about bleak.

It was well acted and well filmed. They didn't go for the big shark. They didn't go for the fantastic or the unbelievable. They just went with events as they might have happened.

I couldn't see the point of it. I felt that when I was a kid reading H. P. Lovecraft and his Call of Cthulhu knowing that yeah, life is pretty random and pointless and that it could all be over at any time.

Am I alone in this or ?

I liked it fine, as is. I don't think some deus ex machina at the end would improve the movie in the slightest.

Most movies either don't have a point, or they're terribly cliche. So, while I agree that it's bleak, I didn't find it overly depressing.

I didn't like it so much. Sure, it was a little depressing, but I thought it was more boring. The movie is effectly over half way through.

My parents rented this movie and Shark Tale. We watched Open Water first. I must say, the movie absolutely stunk. Thankfully we watched Shark Tale right after. That more than made up for quite a depressing movie. I really do hat movies where the main caracter(s) bite it. ;)

I liked it. I dive (ok I USED to dive) and some of the fears of being left adrift in the big blue sea were understandable, especially when you do encounter dive operators who just care about earning a buck. I did find the ending depressing though.

The notion that Deep Blue Sea was better than ANY other movie is kind of frightening.

I mean, giant superintelligent sharks sounds like it has my name all over it, right? I should have LOVED that movie.

What a piece of crap. I think I actually suffered Intelligence drain watching that inanity.

Haven't seen Open Water, but I want to. Everything I hear about it makes it sound ugly and brutal and unsentimental to me. I find it awfully amusing that somebody would combine it with Shark Tale.

Sort of like combining Dead Ringers with Twins, because hey, both are about sets of twins, right? Good fun.
