Opinion needed on class to play in a party

Know what might be fun? Ranger 1 / Sorcerer 6 / Knight Phantom 10
(or Ranger 1 / Wizard 5 / Knight Phantom 10)

Preserves the everyone-sorta-fights aspect of your party, and you gain an arcane spellcaster that's deeply Eberron.

I think the party needs the wizard to plug a hole - which I think rules out duskblade and warlock since they're going to need the diversity of the wizard. I'd like to revise my earlier Sorc or Wizard to Wizard or Mystic Theurge.

Arcane + Roguish needs = Beguiler (PHB2), or just plain wizard taking spells that cover the roguish needs for trap & lock requirements. Supplement this with something like changeling for the race, and you can have it all.

If you are still of the opinion that a front-line tank is necessary (which I don't see from what you are saying), then go all the way with a Warforge Fighter or Knight (PHB2).

With three new players and no scout to give you advance notice of what's coming up, it's hard to see how an Artificer would work in this party. The new players may well get antsy about always having to stop while you prepare an infusion every time you approach a new encounter. But the party does need both rogue and arcane abilities.

You didn't say if the party was starting at Level 1 or something higher, but I'd suggest a Lurk to (sort of) cover both bases.

A kalashtar psionic artificer could be fun - they're in Magic of Eberron.

And ain't that ironic? :\

Anyway, I'd suggest either
1) Warforged Artificer
2) Human, Elf, Half-Elf, or Changeling Rogue/Wizard/Arcane Trickster
3) Warforged Swordsage :p

Ranger? Monk? Druid? Depending on their skill choices they may have their point covered two or three ways.

I would go with a wizard, sorceror, or psionicist, maybe + rogue level or two to pop locks and traps.
