Opinions--Heroes of Neverwinter FB game

Well, I spent about a day and a half on it and am done until they fix two big issues. They've already been mentioned but here they are again

#1 I always lose init.

#2 Rewards for gold are too low and the cost to hire others is too high. I lose money playing the game. Does that seem right?

Level 1 is a lot of fun. After that your teammates cost too much. But I did make it to level 10 by going with a solo (after level 1) cleric with some AoE ability (go go mighty dragonborn!) and healing myself between battles. Gold isn't really a problem anymore.

I earned 700 gold or so without trying very hard. Just make a level 2+ cleric with max CON and put it in the best armor you can afford. Everyone hires clerics, and they tend to pick the one with the best AC and hit points, since that's all you can really see at the hiring stage. The gold from all the hirings plus the daily chest award builds up pretty quickly. Now that open beta has started, I also have 3 friends in it, so I can hire their characters for free.

Definitely. I rarely run any fighters, unless I've tapped most of my friends characters already. None ever grab charge, so they often spend a turn or two doing nothing in their heavy armor and no ranged attack combo. Wizards, clerics and rogues though are all awesome. I make sure to have eladrin rogues so between fey step and the rogue utility, they should be able to get to get to and stun anyone on the field.

Not a great fan of the game itself. I'm now at level 3 and there are two unlocked adventures that I can't attempt because I need a hero's commendation... that of course you can buy with astral diamonds. I understand the need for microtransactions but locking people away from content feels the wrong way to do it - I wouldn't mind if it was limited to buying energy or more powerful stuff at stores.

Also combat could use a redesign. Tactics are limited to focusing fire on one enemy at a time, fighters are nearly useless at metshielding, and rogues aren't particularly damaging or more durable than wizards, so I've learned to stack two of them and blast the opposition unless I know there are doors that need unlocking.

You could also just complete a quest that awards you one.

This is entirely true.

For a lot of the AD stuff, the cost is reasonable enough that you can make due with the little you get (the important thing is to save luck potions for day 5, because you can get 10 ADs out of your treasure chest). And trying to find ways to avoid having to spend them (like getting friends to send you pots of life when they are available) and don't buy stuff that isn't worth it (knock scrolls, especially to open treasure chests, are rarely worth it.)

Rogues and wizards are sort of swapped in this game. Rogues are controllers, because stunning strike and dazing strike are awesome (dazed characters seem to always use up a move action instead of attacking) control, while the wizard does the big aoe damage with ongoing, minion clearing, etc. The strength cleric gets the knocking prone attack which is also good for control if you are able to move everyone away after knocking the guy prone.

Ive been playing for about 2 days and just got 1 charter to level 3.
some good race/class combos:

Dragonborn clerics - the Will power is Str based. as are many of the encounter abilities. remember 2 heals are better than 1!

Eladrin Rogues, move/fey step/stunning strike the enemy commander? priceless, although your at will will suffer from lower charisma. In another level, I Imagine that dazing strike/dash will be used to lockout melee enemies.

fighters are the weakest class.

I have a 3 friends who play, and tend to only need to recruit 1 PC at most from the hall. One dedicated friend has a l6 cleric, and the raise dead is handy when trying higher difficulty adventures.

redoing the hero's commendation quests looks like it is going to get old. ah well.
Just ended a real campaign, and will be playing this for a while until new new game get s up and running. In janurary (sigh)

I could really use a save/resume funtion as many adventures take 30min or longer.

Re: Fighters; they're only really that bad since they can't mark. They actually do very good single target damage with Brute Strike and Crack the Shell. As long as you pick up "Charge!" at level 2, rather than Boundless Endurance, you're good.

Re: Saving/Resuming; The game automatically saves and lets you resume adventures. To test, refresh your browser while adventuring. Log into that character again and you have the choice of resuming or abandoning your adventure.

I'm liking the wisdom based cleric with good con rather than trying to balance wis/str and cha. I got tired of the standard cure light wounds str cleric being slowed and out of range of my focused fire target, so created a pure wisdom one which takes the ranged at will instead of cure light wounds. However I'm sometimes a bit short on healing so looking forward to level 6. The cleric can take a pure cha power at level 5 which is a bit odd
