Opinions on 'd20 Past'

I was just looking through D20 Apocalypse yesterday, and I thought it was worth pointing out that it's a sterling example of how to handle a softcover book on an esoteric topic. It's clearly a labor of love. They even have the mounted combat rules D20 Past was lacking.

I enjoyed what D20 Past offered, but still wanted more. I'm glad that I purchased it, but I hope they do a second book over the subject matter.

It was the biggest disappointment that I have had with a gaming supplement in a long time. Not worth buying at all, at all.

Agreed. I was one of those who was really excited when I heard about this product.
But when I examined it at the FLGS, I found a poorly written, poorly edited, detail deficient mess.
It was a tremendous disappointment. No information, no detail, nothing useful. Well, fx-drenched campaign settings that lack any of inspiration.

Absolutely terrible. I didn't buy any RPG products period for three months after this came out, so disgusted was I.

Save your money, don't buy it.

What's funny is that for a book the majority seem to be disappointed with, WotC gets so many requests to put the rules content into the Modern SRD.

There is some good stuff in there, maybe not a lot compared to other WotC d20 Modern books, but I think the fan base has done a good job in pretty much guaranteeing that the good stuff will never make it into the Modern SRD.

I personally didn't think the book was as good as it could have been, and give it a 6.5/10. I would, however, like to see it added to the MSRD, though not over Apocalypse or Cyberscape. The material in Past can be recreated quite fine with the existing MSRD, and I guess that right there is the biggest problem with the book, IMO.

Yeah, the fanbase is a complex lots, borders on multiple character disorder.

Meh. Everybody wants everything to be in the SRD.

d20 Past is really only a "fair" product. However, one of the things I think it did well was a Sorcerer Advanced Class that was truly unique and captured the feel of the Sorc's flavor text better than most treatments I have seen. It would be very easy to adapt to a home campaign where there were magically powered individuals who got there abilites from something else.
