Optimum CR spread in Monster Books.

Hey Voadam mate! :)

No investigation. That was off the top of my head and I forgot to throw in a bunch such as MEG's Nightmares and Dreams I & II, the d20 modern menace manual, the darwins world monster book and I'm sure there are others (there's a Yojimbo d20 book of monsters right?).

Nevertheless, darn fine work.

Anyway, we'll see how the CCIII turns out, too bad it got pushed back to December, which probably means author's copies in March or so :)

I can live with March. :)

Oh and UK I know you were working on an Immortal Handbook for when DDG got released into the SRD, will that include epic monsters or is that a separate volume for you?

Well its done first in 4 pdfs. One of the pdfs is indeed a bestiary (with 64, or thereabouts, monsters and templates), with CRs ranging from 20 to 1000+.

Hello again mate! :)

Surprise, surprise.
It always seemed to me that every other creature in the book had the Extraplanar subtype attached to it.

The term Extraplanar, for me, is secondary to the Outsider type.

Actually, I hadn't even taken Vermin and Animals into account.

Okay.

For high CR critters, I'd actually like to see more nonoutsiders and nondragons. Cool, high CR Vermin would be great, but as the Century Worm and the Lucent Worm show, they're hard to do properly.

For high CR monsters you really need either a cool concept or some interesting abilities.

Whereas at Low-level you can often get away without either.

So far zippo...but I'm working on getting that fixed within the next four hours. :) But good luck!

I may have even missed the deadline myself.

But I hope I managed to get half (5) of my entries in before the time was up.

That'll teach me to leave it so late.

I'm sure your 10 made it in Krusty. Whether they get picked is another matter. Myself, I did try to start...but sadly never got off the ground. Teach me to wait around to the last second.

There is a monster open call for the realms of evil blasphemous bestiary in the open call forum. That one has a deadline of January 1st. But that is for fully statted evil monsters with at least three adventure hooks.

Thanks, another one I forgot was my latest Bastion Press acquisition, out for blood which is vampire themed. D&D supplements is a fun field to try and stay abreast of.

I can live with March too. :D

Hopefully they will release DDG material into the srd within the next couple of months, but I'm afraid I have little faith in that.

Hi Nightfall matey! :)

That would be miraculous, since I only sent them five! :D

I just got an email from Mouseferatu and the five did make it in on time. Hurrah! :D

(of course whether they will get picked...?)

I really am annoyed with myself that I didn't get all ten finished as there were some really good ideas in the monsters I left out.

I'd tell you what they were...but theres always Creature Collection 5. ;)

Think positive! :)

I worked on the ideas over the few weeks we had, but left it to the end to do the write-ups. Bloody silly of me.

Interesting, I'll have to go check that out.

Though a number of the monsters I didn't submit to CC4 were still Scarred Lands 'centric', if not specific. So I may deign to keep them for future Scarred Lands submissions. ;)

Hopefully they will do one book with a larger percentage high CR entries in it and I can really 'take the brakes off'.

Too true. Vampire themed you say, how many monsters did they come up with for that? Seems fairly tight parameters.

How many submissions did you get into CC3?

I had three.

Indeed. Though technically irrelevant since I don't draw upon any D&Dg material for the Immortals Handbook (though its still, for the most part, compatible).

I was in Barnes and noble this weekend and flipping through Monsters of Norrath (the everquest RPG monster book) and it has a high number of high CR (19+) creatures, you might want to check that one out
