options for scout.

@2 - it seems it could be used with shot on the run, as it is a ranged weapon, is it not?
Nope, it's not a weapon. It uses its own special standard action that isn't the attack with a weapon action.

At mid levels and upwards, you'll really be missing out on some great benefits from party buffs and equipment if this is your primary attack. If you can get it for just one feat, it might be worth it for a while, especially at low levels.

What's the reason why with shot on the run you can't use a standard action ability but with flyby attack you can? Shot on the run has more prereqs, and less ability. Before someone says 'because it says take a move and an attack action' I mean, why is it like that, and not like flyby attack?

Probably because flyby attack was likely designed with enemy monsters in mind (which have standard actions like breath weapons or SLAs the designers wanted them to be able to use), while shot on the run is more commonly taken by players, and so maybe nerfed a little just to stay on the safe side (so your wizard can't move, cast, duck back into cover, for example).

So you get disgusting double standards like erinyes being able to combine manyshot with flyby attack, but your own grounded archers being limited to a single attack with shot on the run.:(

I don't think I've ever seen any of my groups' archers take shot on the run.
maybe they need upgraded versions like they did with spring attack.
Strafing Run, maybe?
