Orb of Imposition Save modifier question

Also, I've come to the conclusion that Orb wizard is a trap before epic levels. The 16 Int, 20 Wis Orb Wizard may be great at 30th level but is pathetic at 1st. And he can die just as effectively at 1st level as at 30.

I will likely still want to pump wis anyways in prepraration for orb at paragon/epic tier (and going with staff mastery at 1st lv). Wand mastery requires that I pump dex, and that is problematic as a wizard since there is currently little incentive to want to focus on both int and dex at the same time, and it is not that hard to get a decent initiative using existing resources. At least I still have a good will defense to look forward to.:)

Plus, I am betting that it is only a matter of time before wotc releases a new race that grants +2 to both int and wis...;)

Hmm...it appears that all this time I was reading Orb mastery wrong. I had always just presumed that the save penalty only applied to One Roll, like the other two implement masteries. I can see design arguments on both sides of that one...but I see why it's overall more powerful than the others.

Here I was taking staff because I didn't want "cheesy" orb...and it was far worse than I thought. Who knew?

Well I agree with this to a certain degree. However, I believe there were and are a lot of groups that do not care about epic levels. I know that I didn't in 3E; and I will probably end my 4E campaign at level 20, as well.

So, stuff that is broken at epic levels is not necessarily going to be a problem for a majority of players.
I never played epics levels because they were broken and unfun. The IDEA of epic levels is great, I want so badly to be able to run these sorts of games, but they've been screwing it up for 30+ years :-P
