Yes. You succeed against the falling rocks. But as the rocks break, lava seeps out and you fall in to it. You die. No save.

Not in 4e. The rock already made its (successful) attack roll.

You CAN make a save vs. humiliation, but not until the end of your turn, and you have a 55% chance of succeeding.

Why not just save the effort and have a bolt of lightning hit me?

Orc tries to reheat pie in nearby lava (or magma, or superheated rock).
Orc falls in lava and dies (no save).
