Orcish Resources

First Post
I was wondering if anyone had ever made a comprehensive list of all the decent, and perhaps not so decent, source books on orcish culture, history, background, NPCs, adventures, as well as any and all other things orcish.

I find the darn things fascinating and would love to have an all orc campaign or group next time I DM a game, which is a long time off for reasons associated with the war.

So, I have more money than time and would like to snatch up all the books and other stuff (PDFs, moveis DVD's whatever I can get for research) I can and read in my down time.

The source doesn't even have to be D20 or even fantasy, sci fi orcish lore is fine.

Perhaps we can all put our collective heads together and recommend me some sources with links if possible, cause free time and computer access is limited for a while for me.

Thanks in advance.

Green Ronin has Wrath and Rage, a Races of Renown title featuring orcs and orc-kin. It's out of print now ,but if you are *really* lucky your FGLS might be able to get a copy from a supplier that's just hanging around. It's a splat book, but it's really awesome (along withthe rest of that series).

Races of Destiny is about half-orcs, half-elves and illumians and has a few interesting PrCs for 'em (Scar Enforcer is a good one, IIRC).

Other than that, can't think of anything at the moment - wait IIRC there is a d20 website solely about orcs, I'll see if I can't find the link.

They are also called Orks or Greenskins (the latter term being made up in the Warhammer Universe).

Cheers!

"Fury in the Wastelands- The orcs of Tellene" of Kenzer&Company has lots of cultural information compared to little in terms of crunch. It diversifies Orcs into different cultural groups each with their own behavior. Definitly worth checking out!

I second this recommendation. It's a great book if you want to use orcs in your campaign. And the illustrations are really funny :).

? :heh: ?

Examples? I haven't read though it in awhile, but whatchoo talkin' bout?

Gazetteer 10: The Orcs of Thar, for the Basic D&D/Mystara system. The DM's guide presents the orcish (and other humanoid) nations that live in the Known World's Broken Lands. It also describes their history, cultures, and an underground orcish city, among other things. The Player's Guide also describes orcs and goblins and such, provides rules for playing them as characters (out of the scope of the original Basic rules), and lists names, etc.

There is a decidedly humorous edge to much of the Gazetteer, but it is still a pretty good source of information.

As you recommended the book yourself, I can only think you meant my comment about the illustrations? There are quite a few in the book that make me laugh, in a positive sense :)

I found Mongoose's Slayer's Guide to Orcs pretty good, here's a link to the review on enworld, and here's a link to DriveThruRPG where you can buy it if you want.

Reality Deviant Publications (RDP) through Ronin Arts has a series of NPC Antagonists books, called 'A touch of evil'. Volume 1 is all about orcs, and here's a link to the product page at rpgnow.

Hope it helps, lior
