Order of the Big Red Bear (In character thread)

Dunno whether I was included in that. If so, d20 + 2 (DEX) = 9 + 2 = 11. (I thought there might be armor or encumbrance effects, but I could find no indication that armor or encumbrance affects initiative.)

Short of applicable feats, it's simply d20+dex, you are correct.

12+4=14 for Init

If I have the initiative or can get to the rope before they get out of the whole, draw the scimitar and sever the rope to prevent them from climbing out easily.

ooc - just noticed that weapon finesse didn't bump up my attack bonus with the scimitar - should it have?

Or possibly 16? Either way, you are first. :)

Slashing through the rope, it fallsto the floor of the pit. The goblins, trapped and without most of their equipment, shake shovels at you and shout in the goblin language.

WEAPON FINESSE [GENERAL]
Prerequisite: Base attack bonus +1.

Benefit: With a light weapon, rapier, whip, or spiked chain made for a creature of your size category, you may use your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier on attack rolls. If you carry a shield, its armor check penalty applies to your attack rolls.

A scimitar is a one handed weapon, not a light weapon or one of the exceptions listed above, so weapon finesse grants no benefit.

ooc: actually, poor typing skills - was supposed to 12+2=14 :-)
ooc: maybe I will pick up a whip at some point then to use that feat that I am not using...

To Kerwick: I don't suppose you speak Goblin?
To Goblins: I don't suppose you speak Common?

I can speak to them in common, elvish or dwarvish - I can threaten them with steel. :-)

If they don't surrender, we could just fill in the hole - it was nice of them to dig their own grave. :]

ooc: Say the last bit out loud in common and see if they respond.

What do you have against goblins?

I can "Comprehend Languages", but it requires touch and does not allow me to speak comprehensibly in a foreign language . . .

Hmm, let's see...do we want prisoners that we would have to escort back to the city? If not, then do we disarm them and let them go or make sure they aren't able to dig another trap?

Is this region of the path considered to be under control of the city? Is it patrolled? What does one conventionally do when one sees goblins or possible trap-diggers hereabouts?
