Assuming Celia's a DM-controlled NPC, I fail to see the humor in the DM railroading the plot towards...that.

There is no DM nor any players. Just characters in a world that follows D&D rules. Try to read it as a story and not a transcript of a D&D game; that's how the author writes it.
 



If Roy becomes a bone golem what does that do to his chances of being resurrected? It would surely make a resurrection a lot harder.

That's probably why he did it. Rich seems determined to keep the party split.

Also... Sense Motive doesn't work that way!

(Which is probably the entire point of that joke. :o )
