Order of the Stick 679

I think I'm missing the joke in the final panel. Maybe it doesn't cross the Atlantic well?

Could someone explain it to me? :(

Cheers

Well, from what I can tell (not counting the visual gag in of itself) ...

If you look at the last few panels from #677 (two strips ago) it will be a bit more clear ... basically, despite everything else going on, the familiar is still fixated on that as well.

Of course, if there is more to that joke then I'm missing it too :)

I believe the humor is derived mainly from the absurdity of a small raven wearing a large sombrero and a fake beard. The arises because such a such an outfit would generally be considered a poor disguise on a human and does nothing to disguise the ravens avian nature.

Well, it's partly the comedy cliche of a character with a disguise that is so painfully easy for the audience to see through that it's funny that the characters don't, like a fake mustache, glasses and a funny hat.

The sombrero is a traditional and stereotypical Mexican hat (that is a very over-the-top cliche way of announcing to an audience that a character is Mexican, or is trying to appear Mexican), so it probably appears more in North American humor than European humor.
