Oriental Adventures as OGL Material?

Greetings all.

I've heard some rumors as of late that WotC might be considering adding some of the material from Oriental Adventures to the OGL, and am wondering if anyone else has heard about such a plan.

Anyone?

That's news to me.

It would be great for the fledgling Dinopirates of Ninja Island campaign setting, however.

I think Rokugan's open content statement says something to the effect of it's open content unless closed in the source material. Which is a clever way of saying "as soon as wotc makes their samurai and shugenja open source, ours will be too."

Still waiting. I have heard no plans, but it SO needs to happen AFAIAC.

Tell WotC to stop publishing books like 3.5e, which got special treatment right before its release. Either that or hire an intern for the intern Andy Smith.

True - the tricky part in Rokugan is that while on the one hand, they say all new classes, feats, etc, are open content, they also claim everything adapted from Oriental Adventures is product identity. And since the Samurai and Shuwhatzit are "Adapated from OA", they might therefore be off limits.

But! If you read the definition of what "Product Identity" is, it doesn't include things like classes. Therefore, the Samurai and Shuwhatzit class cannot be considered product identity, since they aren't eligible to be PI.

It would be easier to just clone Andy Smith a few hundred times.

Maybe rename them, a la Bigby's, Mordenkainen's, Otiluke's spells?
