Oriental resources

Bloodstone Magi

First Post
I'm preparing to run an online D&D Oriental Adventures campaign, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good resources for oriental culture/mythology.

Thanks in advance!

Cheers!

hello!

hi, what kinda oriental campaign are you running?

if you wish to lay out a strong magic/ psionic system along Oriental lines, you could try looking at Japanese Esoteric Buddhism and mythology - this stuff is pretty cool.

if you want some stuff on Chinese/ Indian magical beliefs of the elemental systems and breakdown of the world, here's another useful link.

http://www.friesian.com/elements.htm

here's also some stuff on Chinese mythology and history of the Warring States and Romance of 3 Kingdoms:

this is a listing of Chinese gods and their names, for some inspiration:

For something more Southeast Asian and syncrestic (here, in my part of the world we've been a major melting pot of Buddhist, Taoist, Hindu, Islamic, and indigenous animist beliefs, so it may suit a more diverse DnD campaign model) you may want to look at the following Indonesian stuff.

Finally, if you just want some Chinese empire kung-fu style action, you can take a look at the dragon-fist page.

hope this helps! if you need anything more, just holler!

Why did I know you'd be first to reply to this post xenoflare? :D

Anyway, http://www.pantheon.org/areas/mythology/asia/islamic/articles.html is a site for Islamic 'mythology (I use this word because I don't know what else to use. It's not so much mythology as history) and is quite accurate, without being too political or (forgive me for using this) fundamentalist.

It gives you the basics, to put it simply.

http://www.geocities.com/khola_mon/Islam.html is a bit more subjective, but gives a few more miscellaneous details.

Hope this helps!

erm erm

erm because i have to sit for an exam on Asian culture in 5 hrs? :-P

haha seriously though, i'm just trying my best to "zheng" Asian culture as a source of gaming inspiration. i'm not too good at Islamic lore, so you'll have to support with that, Chas.
