Original campaign settings at RPGNow?

Jürgen Hubert

First Post
Since I want to know the market and the standards other settings out there set for the eventual publication of Urbis, I was wondering:

What original campaign settings are sold on RPGNow, and how would you rate their quality?

To qualify, the settings must be solely published as PDFs - I have neither the aspiration nor the money to compete with print products at this time...

I bought The Valley of Frozen Tears back when RPGNow was one site, not (somewhat inexplicably to me) two. It was decent, but not what I was really interested in, as it turns out. (It made some assumptions about the world that would work with most campaigns, but weren't what I was into.)

I'd give it 3 1/2 stars.

I recall a few setting/city PDFs I bought in the past few years back. The ones that stand out the most for me are:

Murchad's Legacy (a campaign setting) - 4.5 stars
Visira - City of Sorrows (a dark, grim city) - 4 stars
Blackwater by Philip Reed. - 3.5 stars
Gateway (city of living waters) by Darren Drader - 3.5 stars
The Kyngdoms is a PDF only (as far as I know) -- this is a great setting, BTW. 5 stars.
I think that Wildwood by Bastion Press is in PDF only (for the Oathbound setting). 4.5 stars

That one doesn't seem to exist on RPGNow...

Interesting. What's so great about it?

I mean, the name of the setting sounds somewhat groanworthy... ;)

Hmmm.. I suppose I should do my homework first. I am sure that I bought it from RPGNow. Let's see... Here it is! I even think it had a fairly high EnWorld review as well. I liked it because of it's rawness (is that a word?) and it was taken from a story hour here as well.

It's got a deep history, the world is well developed, the entire thing is available for free online as well, and despite some cheesy writing, it's got a TON of inspirational material. It's really very deep. Check it out at http://www.thekyngdoms.com.

Look here! :) It's also available in print, though.

Edit: Too slow ;).
I bought Murchad's Legacy, and reviewed it (4/5).
I think it's a good setting for standard D&D. The only sticking point is the inclusion of gunpowder and the lack of gnomes. Otherwise, it has a nice and fairly reasonable political set up, great diversity, and a backstory that stays out of your way. Being all OGC is nice too.

I ain't familiar with any other RPGNow offerings in this area. Although Guardians of the Forest is the best setting books I've ever read, and The Dragon and the Bear isn't bad either. Both for Ars Magica, though.

A campaign setting is always going to be the hardest sell for me, and a PDF/electronic one even moreso. Unless it's printed out so I can read it on a long trip, in the bathroom, wherever I have free time away from the computer, it's not going to get read long enough and deeply enough for me to digest it.

The Last Dominion is here - I wrote so I'll refrain from comment (since it is designed for Hero System 5th Ed, I don't think many around these parts will know much about it).
