[Original] Work Intensive GMing - creating a world

Hmm ... very thorough and thought through. Thanks.

Thanks. Glad it feels useful.

This was mostly put up because I'd gotten several emails after the Great ENWorld Crash of '06 and Buttercup had saved it (Thank you thank you thank you) so I put it back up.

Currently, I'm doing the Work-Intensive Method of World Building.

I'm not sure how I missed this excellent thread. I'll archive it, but I'll also leave this version open in case there is more activity.

Seriously, nice work.

I'm just going through it now, and this is a great thread. One thing I'd suggest is instead of getting each player to do their opening list separately, have them all discuss it together and agree on a ranking as a group. That way they know what other people mean when they say "Hack and Slash" and "Roleplaying." That helps relieve the burden on the GM of trying to be all things to all players (work intensive good, GM responsible for clashes among players who are not communicating bad).

You can also be a bit more specific if you want; including a few extra things like "Aerial combat" "Mass Battles" and "Desert Environments" and so on.
