Origins Awards Winners

From the press release:

July 1, 2005 -- The Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts and Design is
proud to announce the annual Origins Award Winners for 2005,
recognizing the gaming industry's top games and game products
released during 2004, presented each year at the ORIGINS
INTERNATIONAL GAMING EXPO in Columbus, Ohio.

Academy members voted to select the Origin Award winners from an
exceptional group of

nominees, five in each category. A new program for the Awards was
implemented this year separating Academy members into various gaming
genres or Colleges; with each college selecting its own Origins Award
nominees and winners.

The Origins Award statuette, known as “The Callie” for the Greek Muse
Calliope, celebrates the finest in each gaming category. The
Categories and winners are listed below. A party for all Academy
supporters in honor of the nominees and winners will be held at the
Crown Plaza Hotel, 2nd Floor at 9pm Friday July 1st. See the program
book for details.

Many thanks are due to all who participated in both developing and
implementing the new program.

Don't be. There is a reason that the Ennies are at least as respected as the GAMA awards these days.

I haven't heard of most of them either, but the awards probably matter to those in the industry, so congrats to the winners!

(And, should I actually decide to play one of the games in the genres listed above, I may check out a winner....)

I find it interesting that Z-Man Games won for Best Collectible Card Game. I was on the nomination jury and it was agreed by everyone on that jury that it was one of the worst of the potential nominees. It consistently came in the bottom of our 5 nomination choices as they were vote ranked. Duelmasters and Deathcry were among the top two choices because of their simplicity and high playability without requiring a 70-page instruction manual to understand how to play it.
