OSRIC -- update

If you mean the US English print version of OSRIC 1.00, then I'm hoping it'll be available by Christmas, but this does depend on things I don't control, so I can't promise.

Other releases will be in 2007. :D
Thanks for the update. I am looking forward to getting my hands on the hardback!

To my surprise, there seems to be some demand for a reasonably-priced print version of OSRIC... perhaps peoples' 1e hardbacks are starting to wear out?
If I were to again play AD&D 1e, I would certainly not use any of my PHB copies (original cover, and Easley cover). I consider them collectors, and as such cannot be damaged from being regularly and carelessly used during game play. In fact my AD&D 1e and 2e PHB were in a most pitiful condition, and I had a long time before finding good copies for a low price on ebay. So, if I were to play 1e again, I would first print OSRIC (at work for free, or otherwise I would buy a printed version) and distribute the PDF to players. IMO it makes sense that some people would be interested in buying OSRIC printed.

Nonetheless, I still prefer C&C for "old school" D&D.

Sure. :)

OSRIC is my attempt to recapture the 1e systems and algorithms in an open gaming context. The core rules are free in .pdf format.

You can download them here: http://www.knights-n-knaves.com/osric

Anyone can publish material and say it's OSRIC-compatible. They need not ask my permission or pay any fees or royalties, provided they comply with a set of terms and conditions that I like to think are fairly reasonable -- they're there for my protection and everyone else's.

At the moment, the OSRIC rules are in a kind of open beta phase. (This doesn't matter to publishers; few people play OSRIC as written. They simply use their OSRIC-compatible material with the original 1e rules, which is what I indended.)

I'm hoping to move to a reasonably final version shortly.

To my surprise, there seems to be some demand for a reasonably-priced print version of OSRIC... perhaps peoples' 1e hardbacks are starting to wear out? In any case, I'm working on providing the core rules in print format at cost price (likely to be under $7.50 for the 132-page 8.5"x11" softback).

This thread is just to keep people informed about recent progress I've made.

Said it before and will say it again. This is GREAT stuff Papers.

Both of my 1e PHBs (both original Tramp covers) are still in very good shape. My 2e PHB, however, is in much worse condition even though the 1e books got at least an order of magnitude more use.

It doesn't ring a bell. Which issue?

I can't believe I found it so quickly: Dragon #285 p. 41.

That's the case with my books, too. The older ones must have simply been higher-quality binding, et cetera. The drop in quality came during the end of the 1E period, IMO. For example, my Unearthed Arcana is completely falling apart, with most of its pages loose.

OK no one's asked in a while so I will: any new release dates for "OSRIC" or "Monsters of Myth" in print. I'm really hoping before Christmas.......I want my wife to buy me both in hard back. Seriously, a couple weeks before Christmas would be great for your sales numbers. ;)

Oh, will you have Monsters of Myth reviewed by anyone...maybe here at ENworld? Also will you advertise (like in Dragon etc.) or just go word of mouth?

Something else which has come to mind: would it be possible, under the OSRIC licencing/OGL/whateveritis, to put together a new guide for game masters? (Not that I'm attempting to dodge around a certain well-known name or anything here...)
