(OT) Advice on a web host?

Seaver

First Post
I'm looking for a new web host and wondering if anyone out there could provide some companies that they have had a good experience with personally.

I'm just needing a provider for a personal site right now to place my resume on and any additional work that I may want to throw up as far as a portfolio of design ideas.

I prefer a Unix server that I can telnet and ftp into 24/7 and load and run CGI from if need be.

I don't need a horde of space. Right now I'm not needing anymore than roughly $15/month can provide at most.

I'm not wanting free space that requires ads or anything like that on it. The only content I want on the site is my own.

So any advice? Thanks in advance. :)

Next Generation Hosting - www.nghosting.com

This company has been great in the year I've worked with them. Not only do they offer several ranges of hosting packages, you can telnet in, ftp in, use CGI, SSI and PHP.

Though in my experience, their greatest feature is their technical/customer support. You have not only the option to call or email for a quick response, but they also have an assitant on call via ICQ much of the time.

If you ever need more space, bandwidth and extras, you can always upgrade your account. And, you may also make your account a reseller's account. For a one-time fee of $30, if you already own a 100MB or more account, you can set up several domains within that space and sell them for whatever price you want.

Thanks for the tip.

I went ahead and did a little research on them and I couldn't find much in the way of independant user reviews which in my opinion is a good thing.

Things tend to get more attention if they tick people off than if people are pleased.

It's not hard to find bad reviews about a hosting service if they've slighted someone in the least.

Plus they do indeed offer some nice packages. And that graphical admin tool is just neat! :)

I just spent 30 minutes messing around with the demo.

Again the info is much appreciated.

I tried several different freehosts for personal sites then earlier this year I finally found a inexpensive payhost with good support. Check out http://www.itmom.com which I now host my main site & a few of my minor sites.
