[OT/Andromeda] Help! What happened with Trance?

The Big 3 don't like science fiction at all, prolly cause of ratings. They would never pick up a scifi show.

That was my point. I'm sorry if I was unclear about that. Sometimes I can lose focus when I have a lot to say. Not enough grey matter to take on such tasks ;)

The problem is, more episodic shows are generally more lucrative. B5 struggled throughout its run to stay on the air, and its successor, Crusade, despite being more episodic in nature, died quickly.

I really don't think Andromeda is in the same boat. Most often, they spin off of the show's common theme -- contacting and allying with new worlds. I don't think the recurring characters or plotlines are nearly as involved as B5.

And I agree I don't think Crusade was a good example. It was a halfhearted attempt. It had some charm, though.

I don't see why it's a bad analogy. B5 wasn't on TNT until near the end of its run, having dodged cancellation 3 or 4 times prior, and Crusade, which, as you say, was highly rated for cable, just didn't attract the kind and numbers of viewers it needed to survive. It had close to a network show's budget and a fraction of its audience. Certainly TNT can take the blame for some of its failure, but not all of it; it would have been interesting to see if Crusade would have been found by an audience had it lasted longer.

It was well known knowledge that TNT and JMS butted heads many times over B5 and Crusade. TNT decided to can Crusade, in part, because JMS would not make changes to the show they suggested. Note this was before the series even aired. TNT then advertised the show as a "limited run series", turning OFF viewers who were expecting a regular series. Finally, SciFi expressed interest in picking it up, although their budget had already been spent for that year, leaving no home for Crusade once TNT got rid of it.

Heh, I worry about those that thought "Beka of Borg" was hot. Getting turned-on by someone that looks half machine? *shudder*

Where in heck did Rommy get that new look? Was that explained in the first few minutes (pre opening credits) that I managed to miss BOTH times it aired this week?

I sorta like the new Trance Dreadlock look. And it's most certainly a different style/personality, could be interesting.

Rev is gone? I knew he wasn't in many eppisodes of late, but I thought he just had other commitments and would be back 'in force' later. That he'll never be back (at least as Rev) truely sucks. He was one of my favorite characters, and this is from someone who's NOT religious and hates people that 'preach'. :P

Lost a writer? Sounds like the 'core' writer? Going 'more eppisodic'. Dumbing down?! Crud, here I thought thier 'place' in the line-up was more assured and that I had a Sci-Fi seriese I could count on for good 'n steady entertainment (I'm luke-warm on Enterprise). Oh well, should have known it couldn't last.

For some reason, being the #1 syndicated TV show wasn't enough for Tribune Entertainment. Sometimes, corporate execs don't understand to not mess with a good thing, I guess.

It was explained as: Romi is continuing to experiment with her Avatar appearance. This is the result of just her experimentation. (I found that explaination on an interview - the transcript of which can be found on the andromeda website...)

Yup. And all things considered, I think it was for the best that JMS took a stand. Some of the changes were... well, lets say it sounds like some of the producers involved sound like they are the sort who also are involved in the tacky, juvenile teen comedy genre that has been poluting the movie theaters of late. A character who explores alien cultures by having sex with them? Puh-lease!

I really like Andromeda. The story arcs are a big part of what keeps me interested. They make the world and the storyline seem more real than every episode having nothing to do with the rest. I'm really hoping these changes won't ruin the show. It has a lot of promise and I'd very much like to see where it's going.

I like the old Trance character. I hope her new self doesn't expose too much of her mystery. I'd like to learn more about her, just not at the expense of losing everything interesting about her.

Rommy needs to lose the wig. She is such a beautiful women; I don't know who's dumbass idea it was to throw that damn thing on her.

Nietchiens: I love 'em and we need to see a lot more of them.

Harper and Becka are good characters. Both of them could use some more development. And not in the Borg department.

Dylan is also a good character. I haven't gotten the impression of Herc in space and that's a good thing. All in all he's not the most interesting character but he does have promise.

Personally I'd like to see a lot more of Rommy, Tyr and Trance. They are without a doubt my favorite characters.
