&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Really cool game! :)

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp You can play in the game's massive campaign, or choose one of many different battles from World War II... and you can play as either side. You can drive jeeps and tanks, pilot planes, man the machinegun at a base or on a tank, just be an infantryman, etc. This seems to be the game that WWII Online had originally aspired to be, but without the monthly fees.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Just don't forget to download the latest drivers for your video and sound cards, though. ;)

I played the demo, and it is a really fun game, sort of a comic-book version of WW2 combat (there is no real attempt at realism, so be forewarned). One big caveat, however: the network code for multiplayer is far from smooth, and 90% of the servers I tried in the demo had serious lag/choppiness issues (I was on DSL with a P4/1.8Ghz by the way). The review on Gamespot indicates that these issues have persisted into the release version and there is still some general buginess that is being addressed in patches. Seems like BF1942 is following the pattern of games released to the public in beta format (like NWN).

I played the network Demo at a LANFest last week and it was pretty good. Definantly a good game for a LANFest.

I wish NWN was done in FPS, that would have allowed for riding a horse, swimming, jumping, and flying.

odd i never had a single lag issue with either bf1942 or nwn. Bf1942 is a good game overall..... hopefully they get some public sdk action going on for it soon.

I'll second the merciless addon its the cats ass!

yes there is some issues with their netcode and hit detection hopefully they'll be able to tweak it.

the laggy servers for the demo were usually just servers that were allowing more connections then what was recommended per hardware and network requirements i don't find its that big a problem in retail now in that sence.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Now there's a new version of the Historic Addon mod - Version 3.2 - available for download. And it's even got an autoinstaller included.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp And apparently, there'll soon be a version of the mod to be used for games patched with the upcoming 1.2 patch... but that'll be a bit later.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp From what I hear, the v1.2 patch will be out soon (Nov. 4th?). And v3.5 of the Merciless Historic Addon mod will soon follow that, made especially for games patched with the v1.2 patch. :)

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Now that both the 1.2 patch and the v3.5 Merciless Historic Addon mod and texture packs have been released, I can honestly say that Battlefield 1942 has been transformed into one of the best games I have ever played... and for an old geezer like me, that's really saying something!

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp So after installing your copy of Battlefield 1942, download and install these goodies, in the following order:

Battlefield 1942 North American 1.2 Patch

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Wow, things have been heating up lately for Battelfield 1942!

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp The latest patch (Version 1.3... at this same link, you can also find the official download for the Coral Sea map) was released yesterday, and the official expansion pack (Battlefield 1942: The Road to Rome) hits stores tomorrow.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Don't forget that if you had the Merciless Historic Addon mod files installed prior to having installed the v1.3 patch, then you'll either need to reinstall the mod files or simply change the game's .init file as found here.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp All the Merciless files (including some new ones) could be found at this page. Bare in mind, though, that Version 3.8 of the Merciless Historic Addon mod should be released soon and will include added support for the new expansion pack. :)

P.S. = To allow yourself the ability to choose which video refresh rate to play the game in as well as the video resolution (instead of just the video resolution), go to the VideoDefault.con file in the game and change:

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp to

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1
