From what I've read, our founding farthers were agnostic (which is probably one of the main reason why they wanted to separate state from religion).

But, with human nature being the way it is, such "everything-goes-until-someone-gets-hurt" laws would erode marriages and undermine the well being of families (especially those with children). For if prostitution were legal and widespread, it would be also be more acceptable, available, affordable, and perhaps even carefree... and, as a result, most men have a lot less incentive to get married! Seriously.

They were actually quite religious, Jefferson especially, if I'm not mistaken. They wanted to separate church and state in order to avoid a theocratic government. Such a thing would go against the freedom of religion which the wanted to establish.

So.....basically what you are saying is that if prositution were legal, marriage rates would go down the drain, birth rates would plummet, etc. Apparently you don't put a lot of faith into the willpower of men. Well, neither do I, but at least I believe that most of us have an in-born desire to settle down and start a family.
