[OT]Best Miniature/Counter EVAR!

My favorite Manufacturers: ( I'm not sure about favorite figure ever - that's a toughie! )

1) Rackham : Confrontation Mini's have the best all around line IMO - Great Sculpts and a terrific in-house demo painter.

2) Privateer Press: WarMachine is quickly becoming a favorite. Lots of fun to paint!

3) Reaper : Warlord

Some people don't like using them because they think they are too large? This might be true compared to older Reaper Legends minis and old RP mini's but in truth, mini's are getting larger. They fit well with the Rackham and WarMachine mini's I am using. The main difference seems to be in the base. Just glue a few small circular washers (1" round ) under your old mini's, and they will work fine with todays larger mini's. They will stand up better too. 3 cents each or so for the washers. The Warlord elves do seem to have large heads though - they must be FR elves!

Buying Mini's online:

1) The War Store

Neal does a great job. Fastest service on the net.

2) Fantization

Good selection and great prices. Your order will ship about a week after you place it.

Never order from NewWave. They don't have a clue what they have in stock at any given moment, will want to send you a partial order and charge you for shipping twice while you wait weeks or months for your order. I wish they did better, because they have the best selection on the net.

If you have not seen this site, check it out. I visit a few times a week to see the latest additions to the Gallery ( enable pop-up stopper first ! ) :

The Chaos Mammoth (I forget who did it at the moment). I saw a fully assembled/painted one at Origins and it was amazing. The fact that the bleeding HeroClix Sentinel beat it out for best fantasy/sci-fi miniature at the Origins Awards just shows what a sham those things are.

Who else here (besides diaglo) remembers the Grateful Undead (skeleton band), Zoid the pinhead barbarian, and the dwarf w/inferiority complex (on stilts)?

It took me a week (several hours a day) of work to put together the Netherlord... I'm still working on painting him. I do NOT recommend this mini for inexperienced painters. It involves alot of pinning and puttying, it definately tested my skills (I've been painting minis since 81). I finally got rid of all the unfitted seams and they are perfectly blended, but it took alot of work. The Netherlord is basicly done by one guy at home and you can tell... it's an amazing mini though, but it takes alot of skill and work to assemble it.

Furthermore, I've taken a fancy in some of the Celtos-Stuff from I-Kore, especially the Elves (http://www.i-kore.com/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Sidhe__the_Elves_16.html).

I have to agree, here. Although they seem to be at a slightly different scale than a lot of other minis on the market, Celtos is a great line...it hit its theme EXACTLY, really making celtic myth come alive.

As for the Rackham minis--they are all VERY well cast, with lots of details, and generally cool poses. But what's the deal with the stuff that has to stick out of their backs? Does EVERYBODY have a banner or stick or whatever frowing out of their spine? I don't really like that, at all!

Yep. My cousin had the Grateful Undead and the dwarf on stilts. He also had the Three Stooges 3-headed giant (Larry, Moe, & Curly for the heads).

Thanks for the warning! One question: Do you own the current mold (version) or the previous one? Although the pose is very similar, I know this figure has seen some significant changes.

TIA

I'm rather fond of the Celtos line, the earlier ones in particular. Some of the packs are not as good, but the individually sold ones tend to be really nice.

Outside of them, I like B. Jackson and D. Mize in terms of individual sculptors. I'm not as much of a Sandra Garrity fan as many of Reaper's fans are - to be her sculpts often lack dynamic energy.
