[OT] Did you turn off MNF when it was 35-14?

I was ready to turn it off at 35-14. I had been half-heartedly watching and reading a book at the same time so at that point I said, "I'm turning this off and going to bed as soon as I finish this chapter."

By the time I finished the chapter a couple minutes later, they scored and I somewhat derisively laughed at Al Michaels when he said, "And just like that, the Colts are back in this game." Yeah, right, Al. Down by 14 with three minutes left to play and about to try for an on-sides kick.

Then they recovered the kick and I set my book down. After that everything was just amazing.

I do think the Bucs got screwed on that "Jumping" call at the end because I've never seen that called before. But the Bucs blew way too many chances to finish them off and so I have no pity for them.

Unfortunately, the Colts next play my Panthers. Hopefully they'll play all four quarters like they did the first three last night. (I'm not holding my breath.)

I was at a bar with friends, and paid my tab just before the Colts
made it 35-21. When I saw the Colts get that touchdown, I waited
for the on-side kick. After they got it, I ended up staying and
watching the whole game, with my coat on, ready to leave.

Nobody that was there watching the game left from that time on.
You should have heard the place...the sheer disbelief from everyone.

Yeah, but if Madden and Michaels are right, the refs called it as it is written in the rulebook. I always thought you just couldn't use another play to leap/launch yourself. I didn't know you couldn't land on one coming down as well. I guess the fear is of injuries taking place on landing for either player. Thus, if that's how it's written, the refs got it right.

Of course, is it just me or is that officials crew the most flag happy group in the league?

Be proud Colt fans. But, remember, it's still way too early in the season to start talking trash. Don't get liquored up and come on here talking like an idiot kicker now. ;)

I'm a firm believer in "It's not over till it's over!"

So I watched form beginning to end with a couple internet breaks at the end of quarters and halves... At 5 minutes left when Madden said there is no one he'd rather have in a situation like the one the Colts were in I knew I had to watch it till the end... and then it happend the wildest comeback ever with controversial (if techincally correct) "leaping" call and a fieldgoal that went in after being deflected (it looked to me like it might have been missed if it had not been deflected) and bouncing off the upright.

Now that my friends was "Wild and Wacky" stuff!

That field goal was definitely deflected, and it was definitely shanked just like the last one had been.

Being a Bucs fan, I couldn't believe it. I started helping my wife with some domestic stuff (cooking banana bread, don't tell ANYone) and looked this morning to see how bad it was when I nearly slipped out of my chair. Since I have looked for answers - why did it happen? who messed up? how, how, how?

I was feeling bad for Tony Dungee though, as he was the old Bucs coach and built them up from nothing, but still wanted the Bucs to win.

Just to be clear, I don't think the call was "wrong". But it wasn't like he came crashing down on top of somebody with the potential to injure them. In fact, it looked as though he would have landed without hitting anyone if one of the guys on the right end of the line hadn't been blocked back into him.

The call wasn't technically wrong, but I find it hard to believe that nobody is bumping into anybody else when jumping to block the average field goal attempt. It seemed that it was more of a "convenient time to start enforcing the rule" situation. Regardless, I was still pulling for the Colts (if only to justify how late I had stayed up watching the game) and I don't think the call decided the game definitively.

I do think that it was ironic that Gramatica made two tries at significantly longer FG's, either of which would have sealed the deal, but when Janikowski (sp?) tried two relatively short kicks at the end of OT, he missed the first one and (ti looked like) would have missed the second if a TB player hadn't tipped it back inside.

Unbelievable.

That would be "Vodka" Vanderjagt. :)

I didn't see much of the game, so I don't know what's going on about this "leaping" call. Anyone care to clarify?

I know that it's against NFL rules to use a fellow teammate's body in certain advantageous ways. So for example, in a crucial goal line situation, they can't just put the ball in the hands of a heavily-padded midget and throw him over the defense for a TD. If this leaping thing is what I think it is, I'd imagine using a fellow player as a ramp to jump higher would be disallowed under the same rule.
