[OT] Don't buy Mitsubishi!!

Buy American. I think this country would be a better place if more people like me and Dimebag Darrell lived here(we runs over aluminum christmas trees in his SUVs, I used to hit trees with alarming regularity in my black '76 Nova), so buy American, they're the only cars that can stand up to us.

This thread is probably going to be closed soon b/c its getting too political.

And btw, I would buy American only if I could find an American car that worked as well as my Toyota. 11 years and works perfectly, never been in the shop, nothing. Dealership never gave me any problems, got a great deal. All the American cars my friends have and my parents had bought sucked, they ate gas like no tommorrow, and was in the shop too many times. I love driving and not having to worry about my car dying along the way...or just plain not having to worry about it at all.

And its true, alot of groups unfortunately are very ignorant. Especially the local groups. They don't have a concept of how business works on a large scale than other than their mom&pop stores. Some people have real goals, but mostly they just want someone to blame other than themselves for the mess.

I'm an American and I am sorry to say that the root of our problems is that we always look for someone else to blame for them...thus why we have more lawyers per capita than any other country.

As for you Ash, yeah sounds like you got a sleazy dealership, but don't blame the whole company for one dealership's sleazyness. You're going to find a bad apple in every car company's dealerships no matter who you buy a car from. Definitely get a lawyer, and check your options before dealing with the dealership further and I hope you kick his butt ;) Get the local news into it if you have to.

Report them to the Better Business Bureau so other people can check up on them in the future...oh you guys use this don't you? Before you buy? Always do research before major purchases, not only on the car itself, but the dealership you purchase itself.

Hey, I'm as patriotic as the next guy. But you have to buy using critical evaluation as a consumer. That's the only way to encourage excellence from everyone.

Besides, Honda has a HUGE factory nearby in Ohio. So it's not as easy as "Buy American" anymore. There are plenty of Americans that are putting together foreign cars, and there are some foreigners putting together at least parts of American cars.

So, the bottom line is, buy the best car available. By doing so you will be encouraging all the other companies to live up to that standard - and everyone will be better off.

No, I'm not saying anything bad about Japanese cars, or that the world would be much better if it were filled with patriots. I'm saying the world would be better if people would put cars to destructive(but non-violent) uses against inanimate objects, like Chirstmas trees. :D

And just to note, my car was never in the shop either. Every guy in my family has at least a working knowledge of how to fix a car.

Yeah I know how to fix my car, but I'm just glad I never had to DO it. ;) is what I'm saying.

LOL and my brother already abuses his toyota truck like nobody's business. I'm surprised its still ticking and hasn't needed to be repaired in anyway. Its 10 years old.

Good Tactics for Buying a Car

If you can you should always have two kinds of friends. One is your lawyer. If you have a friend who is a lawyer, take them with you when you go to negotiate.

The other friend to have is one who is a car salesman himself. He knows all the scams, and if anything, the guys you are buying from might know who he is. Bring him or her with you.

When you arrive, introduce everyone. Introduce your lawyer friend as "a" lawyer from xyz firm. Note your friend is not your lawyer. (unless they are your lawyer.)

Introduce your car selling buddy as your buddy.

Go in with a lie about yourself. Make it tragic. Make it believable. One of the oldest tactics for selling cars, (or anytyhing else for that matter) is to find out somthing about the customer and then relate to it. If they mention that they were an orphan, wow, you lost a parent at an early age, if they say they were in the army, wow, they were in the airforce... etc etc. All they are doing is making a relationship with you long enough for you to trust them enough to where you feel comfortable buying a car from them. If you go in with a lie about somthing in your past, and the guy relates to it, this is a good indicator that not all is good.

This should be enough to size up the situation, get a decent offer and put you in some form of control of the situation. They will remember you no matter what. Make them remember you are going to be a tough cookie.

After that, find somthing you like, say you might come back, and leave. Most likely they will call you with deals, just to get you back there. Get a deal get it in writing, and always wait for the finnancing to go through before you drive it off the lot.

Also beheving this way will make them treat you like you are richer than you are because only someone with money would be so careful.

Hope that helps. I am lucky, I have a friend who is a car salesman but you wouldn't know it when he wasn't working. I have known the guy for 26 years and I'm 26. I also know someone who might be a pretty good lawyer some day (and she's a good looking chick, which is a powerful powerful combination! hehe)

Also, my friend who just bought a car saw the same tactic, and deftly avoided it. He kept getting calls from the dealer saying they had him approved for the loan. A week later we get a notice from the bank they were operating through that the loan had not been approved. Sounds familiar.

Happy hunting.

Aaron.

I know probably about 7 people who all have a story about a car type that never broke and how they'l only buy that from now on. And how they have friends whoose cars break with regularity. Some of the unbreakable cars have been american, some german, some japanese etc. Many times you can find people with the same make and model who happened to have lots of problems with their car. Moral of the story read various consumer report style things. decide which car best suits your needs, don't liit yourself to a certain countries cars becaue they all produce the same qualiy cars now, and hope you get the fluke car for your amke and model that is indestructible, and not the fluke car that sucks for that make and model.

Also as a general rule the people with the "indestrucible" cars are the ones who uderstand car maintenence, the ones who have cars that break left and right either bought a suck model which every country produces(research is good) or doesn't maintain their car. The yeah I change my oil every 20,000 mile type who wonder why their car is having problems.

Does he destroy things with his toyota truck? Like, say Christmas Trees???:)

Let's say he's a trained police officer and his favorite thing to do was the driving course...and he's practiced all kinds of things with his truck...and he keeps doing it...I don't what he's done, but that car on the outside looks like it needs help, but yet it still runs...amazing....

True. My father taught me how to maintain my car myself.

btw...my boyfriends always got a kick out of that...if you look at me you would never picture me cranking my car up or popping the hood and digging around

:p

Hey guys? Can we please move the OT political stuff elsewhere?

I don't want to see the thread closed; I want to know what happens. :)

Thanks.

And Ashrem... I have no more advice than others have given, so I'll just say good luck.
