[OT] Eastern Seaboard Snowstorm

Speaking for Alaska

Um. Could we have our snow back?
For the last two weeks it's been above freezing, melting everything. I have green grass in my front yard, the streets are dry, and they're moving the start of the Iditarod up to Fairbanks this year.
I was afraid something was wrong, but it just looks like there were some routing problems with the weather. Please send all snow, plus any temperature below freezing to Alaska, care of anyone who ski's. :)

So, several days ago we got almost a centimeter of snow around 6am. It was all melted by the time I got up, but very credible witnesses have come forward to say that they did, in fact, see it, and that it was white and somewhat soggy. There were no snowmen or angels, however, two mythical creatures sometimes associated with 'snow'.

The temperature just dropped below 60 F again today, however, leading many to believe that the event was not a fluke. Rumors have circulated that central Texas may have to shut down for a few days while this "near blizzard" passes over.

In related news, the sky was a dimmer shade of blue today, leading one grizzled veteran of the Great Ice of '96 to say this: "Ayep. Looks like it might drop a bit of a chill tonight. Some o' y'all might want to wrap your pipes. Gonna be bitter cold."

----

I know snow is hard on y'all, but I'm bitterly jealous of the ability to sit down and write, write, write for several days without interruption.

Well, I'm here in northern Virgina, and we have the most snow we've ever had since 1996. It's kind of weird. Anyone living near DC knows about the astounding lack of snow we've had in the last six years, but this winter, we've gotten a lot.

Yep. I dug my car out around 11pm last night because I knew it would be plowed in because it was on the street. And then a miracle happened! Someone moved their car around midnight! I took his space. Sure, that was a little rude, but in DC parking is blood sport.

My uncle's a lucky guy--he lives out in DC, but this weekend he went down to southern california for a little getaway (and a chance to play in some pro-am golf outing near LA!) so he's missing all of the snow. As much as I would LOVE to have a snow day and be able to get another day off from school, I'd much rather graduate on time, especially since I've got a college visit the day after finals...and i'll have to like, take the finals early if i have the visit and the finals get pushed back a day.

Chicago has gotten very little snow this year and I'm pretty glad. Keep the schools open, then i can get out of the hellhole much faster! :)

Ah. The fluffy white stuff. It reminds me when I was a young'in. All winter we'd have snow on the ground, and drifts you could get lost in.
Here in Fall River, MA the last few years have been very snow mild. This year, uhg. I love the snow, but man... I have shoveled out my walk about three time and it STILL LOOKS THE SAME! My back hurts. It's cold. I most probably have to go to work tomorrow, which means shoveling at 4am. It sure doos look purdy though.
EDIT: Damn spelling gnomes!

This is absolutely no fair! We get robbed of our deep snow every single frikkin time!

I've been longing for a stop-everything-in-its-tracks blizzard for several years now, but we never get anything nifty like that in Indiana.

I'm originally from Western Kentucky, and the climate is almost exactly the same, except we get more snow out here in NoVA. Or, at least, that's what I thought in high school, when deciding where to go for college. It sure looked snowy on the news...

However, I now declare myself satisfied for the winter, since I got to stay home on Monday. We do not need to have any more major snowstorms the rest of the winter. :)

Around Providence RI, things have been juuuust crappy. I have no idea of the inches out there, but I took a walk and there's maybe three inches of the stuff just sitting on the road, because the plows can't even manage to push it to the side. Everything's white, but it's all powder, and the wind's blowing up huge drifts. My car's buried up to the windows and I'm very glad I don't have anywhere to be tomorrow.

Ha! A foot, two feet of snow. Most of you are amateurs. Thats normal everyday snow for those of us in central NY state. We've been digging out since the Christmas Day storm. Its about time some of you other people get the snow. For the past week I've done nothing but work and get stuck in my apartment.

They actually closed the schools up here twice in one month. As soon as we get one load of snow cleaned up another one roars in. If its not a Nor'Easter rolling up the coast its the damn lake effect.

NYC has about a foot, and we're getting more today.

Of course, as a penguin, I adore snow.

Up to 27 inches last I heard. Does someone have a beef with NYC?

Bombings
Terrorism
Threats
now blizzards!
