[OT] Finally Employed!!!

Psychotic Dreamer

First Post
Well after about a year and half I have finally found work doing Help Desk work at an ISP. To say I am happy does not even begin to describe how I feel right now. I know I probbaly shouldn't be posting this, but I just had to share my good news with everyone out there. :)

I hope things go well for everyone out there that is looking for work. I know I was honestly starting to wonder if I would find work. Then a place I had sent my resume to about 6 months ago called... and well as they say the rest is about to become history. ;)

hrmmm

speaking of people finding jobs,

I am an employer trying to fill a job as we speak in the IT field, I have talked with just over 60 people, 28 were good enough to pull in for a face to face interview, 9 were good enough for me to forward onto my superior for a follow up/personality interview, and 3 have been good enough to meet with the president personally (personality rules all here basically). 1 passed the president's interview, and then decided that the offered package just wasn't good enough.

the job market here on the east coast (NJ) is atrocious, but it is flooded with inept people.

sorry for the rant.

getting extremely frustrated.

Hehe, sorry, I would love to hear this rant live. It just seems like it would be great.

The problem with internet tech is that it exploded rather than built up, and most people started off home taught. You don't see this with, for example, biotech fields, where it's near impossible to train yourself.

Now what you have is a bunch of people who assume that because their predecesors got into the field without an education that they can too.

Also, with personality, that is an awfully arbitrary thing to base final hiring on - as an initial screen, it works, but in small numbers it's basically luck of the draw. Whoever gets along with the boss best wins.

I too recently got a job in the help desk profession. It so fun dealing with people who have no idea how to use a computer.
