[ot]"Fly Boy"

I just read the article, and the text itself isn't all that bad. It's when your minds start to make the imagery that you want to bury your head in a bucket of fire ants to distract yourself from the pain.

Ecch!

Reminds me of a story I read a few decades ago about treating maggots hatching in a person's skin. The treatment (developed by Mass. General no less) was to tape raw bacon across the affected area, apparently bacon is a tastier choice for the larvae than long pig...

the Auld Grump, still not as disgusting as elephantitis though... (Look it up...)

I've heard that's a good method for dealing with a bot fly or other ovipositor -- put some nice juicy meat over the cyst, and the larva will head to it, as it smells like more nutrition.

There are some very interesting, if disturbing, insects out there. I remember hearing about one guy who had a bunch of parasitic worms under his skin, he could feel them crawling around looking for food. He had to take some sort of arsenic based medicine to slowly kill them off. They weren't even supposed to be there -- their usual target is the stomach or something, but somehow some eggs got under his skin. Wacky stuff.
