[OT] FREEDOM FORCE! (discussion)

Well, after nearly putting my fist through the wall last night trying to get Fallout 2 to run on Win2000, I have decided to give up my grand plans of "RETRO GAMING WEEKEND" and buy something new.

Anybody know if I am going to have problems getting Freedom Force to run on Win2000?

All I know is I better play something soon or I am going postal. (Stupid gamer friends and their stupid family committments... bleh!)

Heh. Hey, Neverwinter Nights and Warcraft III are out in 30 days, why not wait for those? ;) Seriously, you should have no problems running Freedom Force on W2k.

FF is a good choice, so is Morrowind. From what I know, neither has non-playablilty problems with Win2000. But then, I'm not using Win2000, so I couldn't say for absolute sure.

Can't speak on WC3, but NWN isn't going to make it before the end of June. Beta hasn't even started yet.

Not surew it's much help but i can assure you Fallout 2 does work on everything from Win 95/98/2000/2000se/and XP... as i have played and run it on all. so it must just be some conflict somwhere with your software or hardware thats new since you upgraded to 2000.

I would add that although they run in all the above FO 2 does have a tendency to sometimes crash in 2000 and XP.

Well... The first tutorial mission is fun. Plays through, no problem.

But it locks up EVERY TIME heading into mission two.

If you read about a bloodbath in the Lombard area, it was probably me.

I feel your pain. I have this paperweight/coaster with a pretty Freedom Force logo on it. I get random desktop crashes (no error message, or too fast to see) with WinXP. Sometimes in first mission (one time I couldn't even reach the second spinning sign), always in second mission (especially when Mentor first shows up).

I have kept what I consider to be an extremely stable system. Until recently, I could run every game in my collection pretty decently except Ultima 8 (not much I can do about "system halted" messages). Now the exceptions are Ultima 8, Freedom Force, and Morrowind. Yes, I bought TWO games that are sitting around being paperweights! Yes, I've done the Video/Audio Driver Shuffle. None of the reasonable options (surely you don't require a BETA driver?) worked.

Just bought both Morrowind and Spiderman: The Movie. Turns out neither of them will work on my age-old video card, the once mighty, now dying voodoo 3. My solution is the expensive route; time for a new card! Alas, four years is a long time in computer terms, as we all know :). Poor card served me well and faithfully.

Should have both games up and running soon.

But I have played through and finished Freedom Force. Loved it. One can only hope that the sequel, in the making as we write, will turn out as good.
