[OT] Gaming Consoles: Which one?

PS2.

Why?

Final Fantasy X.

Metal Gear Solid 2.

Those ought to be reason enough. :D I haven't seen anything on either of the other consoles that compares. There's lots of other good stuff out there too.

While those are great (and I also recommend the PS2), you left out the most fun game of all - Grand Theft Auto III. Any game where you can steel a cop car and go on vigilante missions to hunt down other criminals, as well as plant car bombs, is bound to be a classic. :)

Yeah, that game is really cool, but just a warning: it's really nothing more than a glorified Diablo, from what I can tell (having played it only a little bit).

Definitely go with PS2. Not only is it the current strongest system for quality and quantity of games, it also has the most developer support among the big three...which translates into better games in the future as well.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is headed for both Gamecube and X-Box, so that shouldn't be a huge factor in your decision. In fact, most of the best PS2 games will be ported to either or both of these two systems...but it's up to you if you want to wait 6 months or more until they're ported.

since you have a ps, i would go with a gamecube for variety. if you are somehow swayed to buy a ps2 that is also acceptable.

i have a ps2 that i got last year & REALLY want a gamecube... *trying to figure out how to combine holiday gift certificates still into a gamecube*

Well, at first I was really leaning toward the Xbox. Now I have no idea!

I'm really into the RPG games of course, with a "BAM!" (as Emril would say) of the Metal Gear/Syphon Filter types thrown in...

I'm not planning to run right out a get a system just this minute, so I'll wait and hear some more of what the boards have to say...

PS2 beyond any doubt. Just my personal biase but the teachnology gap is overrated. It'll be a few years before game designers find the limits of what PS2 can do, and then they'll just find ways to push the limits. Tons of great games and support.

Nothing wrong with the other two systems, really. But PS2 gives the best value for the dollar.
