[OT] Girls who can beat you up

I'm writing an article for a 'zine and it's about "tough chicks". Buffy, Sidney from Alias, etc. Specifically, about the sudden and powerful interest guys seem to have taken in these kinds of characters.

I'm wondering if anyone out there is particularly attracted to these types of characters and if so, I'm wondering if you can tell me why.

i most certainly love woman like that!

These women portray an agressive, confident, proud, never-quit till-i-am-dead attitude. I love a woman is sure of herself and her surroundings and with a high self-esteem as there are more women out there with low self-esteem and self-worth than high (personal experiences and first hand experinces, i have 2 sisters as well!). This is what attracts me to them and their types.

ps may i suggest nutkinland would probably be a better place for this or meta..

Thanks for the support/suggestion. And if it's easy to move it over to the other group please, by all means, do. I've just posted at Nutkinland.

And my purpose here isn't to be sexist at all. I'm actually writing for a feminist zine, for the record.

Personally, I think its refreshing that men are starting to be attracted to strong, intelligent, confident women. There have long been almost overwhelming societal pressures on girls and women to become meek, compliant, not-quite-bright bimbos, and on men to prefer such, so I take this development as a sign that those pressures may be lessening. It's about fugging time, too.

Salutations,

*shrug* I don't care for it either way, but I know it is annoying that now it seems like every action movie/series has to have one of these tough women in it.

i for one like women agressive, but can not stand these series period. Xena was the limit for me and that got old, angel, buffy, alias, etc. are all like those comic books that have buffed out, busted out women, that look unreal doing impossible things. Granted that's why they are superheros, but reality elludes some of these shows at times...i turn to the history channel and watch about Queen Elizabeth I now that's a woman!

I totally agree! It's nice to see a rise in female characters who are not just girlfriends, damsels needing rescuing, and all the other wussy stereotypes.

What I really like is that these 'tough' women come in a lot of different styles, personalities and strengths. Real characters. Real people. 'Bout time! :D

Are they really that popular? I tend to find them annoying myself.
