[OT] Going to University as Mature Student

You could always get a job in Halifax, probably a better place for your education... don't they have a computer game company or two there?

Problem there being that I want to stay on the Island. Plus, all my other players are here...

Well since I am now "career-free" after a 6 year stint I am also trying to figure some way, financially, to return to school. I am 30 and I have not been in school for many years so it will be an adventure:)

As for me, I'm 35 and just starting Nursing school. I've been married for 12 years and have two kids. I've been in Film & Video Post-production for about 15 years now, but the economy hit the industry hard (as others, I'm sure). Healthcare is where the jobs (and job security) are right now. Two years of school, and I can become an RN, which means good pay, and possible signing bonus!!

Really? I always thought 2 years got you LPN, and you needed 2 more years for RN.

Good luck with it. BTW, O.R. nurses get paid more, and don't have to do some of the things most nurses really don't like to do.

Dude, listen to Cor Azer. You don't want to be anywhere near Kitchener-Guelph-Waterloo. ;)

I know it's on the other side of the continent, but the EOS department at UBC is very good. But since I know you islanders like to stay out there.....

I say go for it. There's no such thing as a wasted education...unless it's in Arts. :D j/k

Hey hey hey! K/W is a fantastic place to go to university (guelph not so much), just not for marine biology in particular.

Best of luck with that whole "mature student" thing.

I did the "immature student" approach myself a few years back, and while it was fun it wasn't terribly well-spent time. Sure it got me a cushy high-paying job that interests me and friends for life, but how far did that really get me?

Oh yeah... never mind. :)
