Happy Chanukah!!

As I did not see a thread on the topic on the boards, I thought I would start one. (Even though it is the third night of the eight day holiday.) So, Happy Chanukah!

(Incidentally, dreidles can be a substitute for a d4 in a pinch.)

Happy Chanukah to you as well!

I had the best matzo ball soup I'd ever had last night, along with latkas... mmm... but they were unusual latkas, made with curry powder and peas mixed in. Kinda like the inside of a samosa or something.... delicious!

Thank you, O Prince of Humor!

My own recipes are pretty traditional but the latkes you had sounded delicious. Are they an Indian recipe? (I do most of my own cooking, so I am always looking for something new and different.)

Looking forward to Friday night services, during which the fire department will be on high alert when eight candles are lit on each of dozens of menorahs at the temple. (A beautiful sight.)

To everyone on the boards, regardless of your beliefs, shalom aleichem. (Peace unto you.) Happy Holidays.

dreidel dreidel dreidel, i made you out of terra cotta...

Well, the Jewish half of our hosts cooked 'em up but she made the recipe variations up as she went along because she's bored of the traditional recipe... She's traveled a lot (she's from the USA but her husband is from Burkina Faso) so she's picked up a lot of different ethnic cooking skills. They had us over for another time for some Burkinabae food, yum!

And to you and yours!

I'm not a Jew but I sure do enjoy their holidays like everyone else's! :D :D

For what it's worth, I've always preferred this spelling of Hanukkah, although I don't know why. Our families celebrated with a lovely dinner party (complete with latkes of course) and gift exchange last night. Now in another few weeks we get to do it all again for Christmas -- both my wife and I are from interfaith backgrounds :).

May the Festival of Lights be a joyful and blessed time for you and your families!!

A song I posted last year, but will post again, in the spirit of this thread:

(incidentally, I'm not Jewish, but I love the Dreidel song)

Sung to the tune of the Dreidel song:

I have a little golem
I made it out of clay
And when it's dry and ready
Then golem shall go play.

Chorus:
Golem, golem, golem
I made it out of clay,
Golem, golem, golem,
The golem can go play.

It has a muscled body,
With arms so thick and strong,
It won't die to normal weapons
That would be just wrong.

(chorus)

Golem, golem, golem
With arms so thick and strong,
Oh golem, golem, golem
I made it like King Kong

(chorus)

My golem's always playful,
It loves to fight and crush
don't play with my golem
He will make you into mush.

Oh golem, golem, golem
It loves to fight and crush
Oh golem, golem, golem
He will make you into mush.
