In a story initially posted on September 14 and updated for the 15th, THE MERCURY NEWS' David Beck reports on a group of "Hobbits" who were set to protest a Hobbit ban in the Big Basin Sate Park over the weekend of the 14th and 15th. What's this? No Hobbits frolicking midst the bower?
It seems that after 23 years of an annual celebration, named "The Hobbit Party" by the guest of honor at the first one in 1978, these Hobbits overstayed their welcome. One assumes it was a break-the-dishes, smash-the-plates kind of affair by the time the last party, in 2001, brought things to a head. The park gave 'em the boot, and this year, the Hobbits staged a protest.
