(OT) Interesting group

I did one of those groups for a few weeks. I just couldn't get over the fact that I was using foam. A few things bothered me but most of all it was the fact that I was using a big foam sword. The rules were also skewed. In this game, spell casters got a staff which was fine by me until i saw how deadly they are. Basically ever 'touch' was a 'hit' (even through armor) So what they basically hadwas a really long sword. I wasn't in any position to change the rules (it's thier game, it'd be rude) so I stopped going :/ Any time a wizard constantly defeats a knight in MELEE combat, something is wrong.

Running around in the forest was good exercise though.

Yeah I know what your talking about. I fought with a group a while back that was much more of an RP'er group. Wizards and what not. But after talking to these guys there much more into the battles and unit tactics.

There is little if any magic. I think they said they might have a resurrection battle once a day. So they didn't have large foam megadeath fireballs of carnage and mass slaying or anything.

They seem similar to SCA from a fighting stand point, but it looked like b\c the swords were foam you didnt have to have a full suit of armor. Which helps the wallet.

I plan on going to some practices and battles so I'll keep ya posted.

I saw a group simular to the group in question at GEN CON last month and I have to say it was rather sad. The audience was not too impressed either as many a "hit him in the ding ding" and "Buddy don't you know Tyr doesn't exist, grow up" chants erupted from the crowd. Well whatever floats your boat I guess. Would I dress up in mock armour and club/slash/stab another "knight" no but to each their own.

Now if they took the foam off and smacked each other with the plastic well thats another story. Then the "ding ding" shots would reflect an actual shot to the jimmy's :)
