[OT] Kinkos?

Not off hand but you can expect it to be based on the paper you want to use and weather or not you have a datasource they can read off of or if you need to log onto a local PC that they rent out by the minute. On average I tend to end up spending roughly $8-10 to print most common PDFs (roughly in the ~100 page range). Hope it at least gives you a ball park.

Just be sure not to give them anything complicated to print.

The place I'm temping, they sent Kinkos an order for a few thousand pages of printing. All the files were grouped into ZIPs, and Kinkos was told how many copies of each ZIP to print.

Apparently, Kinkos unzipped all the files, grouped all the single-page PDFs together, all the two-page duplexes together, and all the multipage duplex and staples together. In the process, they lost track of how many copies of each were supposed to be printed.

The ZIPs were set up for each state (WA, CA, UT, and so on). The net result of Kinkos' goof is that there's two files for WA that ended up being printed for every state, and any file that was named Formxxxx (with the "xxxx" being a 4-digit number) was not printed, and almost every state had files that weren't printed, and some states additional files printed that weren't in the ZIP.

We went out to do some QC, just to spot-check if Kinkos got it correct. We ended up having to verify everything, and making a list of what has to be printed in-house. (They used Kinkos because they didn't want to tie up the printing room for a couple days...)

Oh, the joys of people who start off on a task without understanding what is wanted...

At least it wasn't my fault. :) I'm the one who downloaded all the PDFs from the customer's website on a state-by-state basis, I embedded all the duplexing and stapling, I grouped them into folders by state, and I ZIP'ed them by state. So far, looks like no blame for me! :) :) :)

It was 6¢ per (single-sided) sheet last time I was there, but that was a *while* (over a year) ago. There are other print shops in town of course; White Tiger comes highly recommended where I work, though I've never dealt with them.

DO you want printing or copying? Big diffrence in price.

For copying of an existing document it runs around $0.07 to $0.10 for single sided on normal white paper. The second side is usnally a little cheaper.

For printing from a computer B/W starts at around $0.50 per page and goes down after about 10 or 20 pages. This is off a normal B/W laser printer in the computer area.

If you have a large file, they some times have other cheaper options for printing from disk, but this varies from location to location depending on a stores equipment.

My suggestion would be to call the local one to get prices, and then double check them once you get in store (just in case the person on the phone was out of it or misunderstood what you wanted).

They are more expensive than other places, but take better care of their equipment and usually have better training, but not always as noted above.

BTW - I worked for Kinko's for 3 1/2 years, but my information is could be out of date regarding prices

[hijack]

So I'm at the Indy Kinko's at GenCon and I see some guy trimming the edges of a 4-day badge. He's wearing a camo t-shirt, baggy shorts and open toed sandals. He realizes I'm looking at him, sees my dealer badge and whispers conspiratorially "This is a security matter, don't tell anyone abbout this, it's very important.." I nod, start doing my own work (copying our "stock certificates" for the stock game..) and keep trying to see the name on thet badge but he hunkers down over it.. then I see a real genCon security guy, so does the camo guy, though and he goes to his friends on the other side of the store, they quickly walk up, pay their bill and are on their way out while I explain to the security guy what they were doing and which they went (along with descriptions).

The point is, Kinko's do it yourself copying is a real boon to those who would do things like this...

The badge looked really good from what I saw of it...
