Firstly, sorry for the off-topic post.

I don't know how many people have heard about this already, but after years of waiting, Legend is out on DVD. It's available in stores today, and it's a two-dvd ultimate collector's edition, director's cut, with deleted scenes and whatnot.
Only twenty bucks too, not bad.
Just thought I'd give it a mention here since it is in the fantasy genre and a lot of people here have been waiting for it. It gets mentioned quite a bit in all of the "favorite movie" threads. I know it's one of my favorites.
I don't know if I'll be able to get out today to grab a copy, but if anyone else does, let us know what you think. :)

If it is the original version, you are certainly in for a treat. I saw the original theatre release and it was fantastic. I was very disappointed with the butchered version which eventually became the only one available, and which had lost a lot of the "darkness" that was there originally.

Thanks for the heads up. Now I can just hope it becomes available in the UK format...

That may well be the single most surreal film in our favorite genre ever produced. The soundtrack and photography, combined with a rich sub-text, made it an eerie and moving experience. It'll be good to see the original again (and hear some of the comments on its making). Thanks for the heads up! :)

Wow! I'll offer a dissenting vote; I saw it originally in the theater, and I thought it was dreadful then. Worse, it was boring. It will be interesting to hear whether the deleted scenes help the plot any.

The plot, which on its face is simple, is allegorical in a number of ways that can't be discussed in depth given the restrictions placed on these boards by Eric's Grandma. Suffice it to say the story is about purity and temptation.

(We can discuss it further at GenCon over a few beers... ;) )

Great. My wife bought this about a month ago on VHS. Now she's gonna want the DVD version of it. I had no idea it was headed for DVD so soon...

From what I've read on the net, the theatrical releases in the US and Europe were quite different. The US version was slashed quite a bit to become more accessible to a general audience (read as pandering to the lowest common denominator). I hope the director's cut will be very different from the theatrical release. Not to give out spoilers but Lily was actually a princess not just a maid and Jack was the real innocent of the original story.

Not only that, but as my best friend said at the time, "How did they breathe with all that cr :) p in the air?"

And I'm a big Ridley Scott and Tim Curry fan. This movies just blows. But I do remember two lines from the film:

"How like you my gifts?"
"Can you speak so of your bridal gown?"

Tempuswolf: That might explain a lot. I'll probably at least rent it once to see if it's any good (maybe I've gotten wiser in the intervening 17 years)....

Wh-what? You mean that in the US version they don't even say that? Boy, it wasn't cut, it was butchered!

Unfortunately the butchered version for showing in the US (I think they cut about half an hour!) is rubbish. The spooky strangeness of the Gump throwing a fit, Jack sweet-talking the water trolless, and not to mention the CHAIR "Why don't you... sit... Lily?" all got neutered in the cut version.

The original was a far, far better story. It's not all action packed jumps from one scene to another, but it really built atmosphere.

Cheers
